Question about posting links to websites

I'm so sorry if I'm being thick
I'm just wondering what the rule is on posting links to websites. Are the allowed at all?
I wanted to post a link in the xmas forum to a good website I found last year for buying gifts but I wanted to make sure it wasn't against forums rules.

You may not post advertising, commission, referral or affiliate links. You may not link to sites whose main income is derived from affiliate or referral links

I've seen that above but I think I'm being a bit thick in not understanding properly

generally it's to keep people from posting links to their own websites to promote their business
