Question for Endo sufferers...

My SIL is having real problems each month. Her symptoms are painful periods, terrible cramps, irritability and constant extreme tiredness.

Her doc keeps prescribing anti-depressants, but she's convinced it's something else (fibroids or endometriosis). She's finally managed to convince her doc to send her for a scan.

She'd like to ask anyone who has previously had the scan if they will tell her the results straight away, or do they send them to the docs? She's really worried that the doc will misdiagnose her again as he's been less than useless and misdiagnosed quite a few things she's had over the past year!!

Any advice/help will be gratefully received as she's at the end of her tether right now and is very frustrated with the whole thing. Thanks x

Hiya

I don't know much about fibroids but I've just recently been diagnosed with endo. I'm not sure what scan your SIL is going for but there is no guarantee that endo will show up on an ultrasound. It didn't show up on my ultrasounds or when I had a HSG (when they put dye in your uterus and tubes abd watch it like an xray to check your tubes are clear). The only sure way to diagnose endo is with a laparoscopy which is an investigation which they do under general anaesthetic. Doesn't sound like your SIL is having that so I'm not sure that she is having the right tests to detect endo.

They will tell u what they see straight away, fibriods are easy to see. And only endo is seen if there is an endo cyst. If no cyst, only way to diagnose is via a lap. Hope that helps.

Thanks for the info girls. I'll pass it on.

She's having an ultrasound. I suspect if nothing is seen on the ultrasound, they'll recommend a Lap.

:dust: to you both! x
