Feel like I come here with a new query almost daily! Is such a good place to get advice!

Jack is on SMA gold we started introducing it last fri and are now EFF.

We started on the lowest amount 3oz. He quickly drained all his bottles so upped it to 4oz on day 2.

He loves his bottles and I think there is only once that he didn't drain the full thing. He also 'roots' after he's finished and acts a bit hungry. But after a wind and being distracted with a dummy he is settled and seems satisfied.

The tin says give 6 bottles of 4oz in 24hrs up to 2-4weeks age. He's nearly 4 weeks and as he is finishing all bottles I tried him last night on 5oz which he loved and drank it all

My question is - how much do you go by the tin? I'm sure he'd have 5oz each time but he's not quite 1 month and the 5oz bit says 2 months! Am I at risk of overfeeding?

hi hun

you cant over feed him he will drink as much as he needs and will turn away if he doesnt want anymore - i stopped going by the tin very early on as i learnt most babies a simply not to the book - give him as much as he would like - it is trial and error. My lo was the oppisite and didnt drink enough

xxx

Dont worry about what it says the tin at all! From newborn to a couple of months old very few babies will only want 6 bottles in 24 hours, my lo was having about 8-9 bottles to start with!. 5oz seems like a fine amount, and if he is draining each one maybe even try 6oz? He will not over feed, and if he drinks too much he will throw it up. xxx

I wondered this as it says for us 6 feeds of 3oz. He's already had 5 formula feeds since 10 this morning so he's going to have way more than 6 by tomorrow! But babies don't come with instructions so we feed them when they need it lol.

Agree with above posters. My LO is 11 days old and is drinking 4oz every couple of hours, sometimes he will drink 2oz and want the rest after half hour or so, but defo has more than 6 bottles in 24 hours. I'm feeding on demand and he's the boss and will let me know when he's had enough :) xx

Thanks everyone! You've all said what I thought but it's nice to know others are the same! I guess I'll let Jack lead the way! Xx

Just have to agree with the others... I am on the other end of the spectrum .... My LO is 5months old and takes 4-5oz each feed.. she is on 5 feeds a day so clocking up about 20oz... If I went by the "recommended" amount on the side of the carton she should be on 35oz a day and there is noo way on earth I could get her to drink that much milk she just isn't interested... Feed that boy if he wants it! It will only do him good! :O) x
