Hiya ladies, :flower:

I'm just wondering if you lovely girls could clarify something for me. I went to L&D with cramps last night. Anyways, it wasn't true labour, I am in labour but not active labour. She said I'm 1cm dialated and my cervis is 3cm long. She also said my tighenings were being showed on the monitor.

What I don't get is, the 3cm long cervix, can that take ages to go to the right cm? Or can it happen quickly?

Thanks.

I think it can happen quite quickly. Being 3 cm long is the same as saying 3cm thick I think and it just has to shorten down so that you can start to dilate fully. When I was in hospital overnight last month the girl next to me was checked about 12am and was told it was still long and posterior then when she was checked at 6am she was 6cm dilated

It can be different, I was in slow labour for 3 days after my waters broke then suddenly I went from 4cm to 10cm in about 45 minutes xx

Your cervix is like a little fat closed tube .... It will begin to soften then shorten and then open . . . It can days days or hours . Sometimes minutes ... My sister went from 3cm to delivery in an hour . I went from 2cm to pushing in 3hrs :) good luck with everything !! :hugs:

I hope this happens quickly. I have a sweep on Friday if not, somethings happening I hope. Thanks ladies.

It's different for everyone. It can happen fast or slow. Usually it does go faster than slower though, depending on position of babe and how much pressure he/she is putting on the cervix.
