my DD wasnt in NICU long, 1 week NICU 2 weeks SCBU and she struggled A LOT with feeding. She just seemed to have no idea how so suckle to the point where she wouldnt take a dummy because why on earth am i wasting all my sucking strength on this stupid rubber thing that awards me nothing :haha:

and when she was hungry she used to try pull at her nose tube and she still does this thing when she's cuing for hunger where she grabs the air and makes tugging motions beside her face/cheek

she still refuses any dummy (pacifier) to the point where she'll give it two sucks and then cry because its not the boob lol!

she is also very into the every 3 hr feeding scheme though now she starts to go longer between feeds not so much

so cute

Ella has some quirks too! When we got her home and she was breastfed on demand, she rooted for a feed exactly every 3 hours for about 2 weeks! Now she's been home for a while, it's anyone's guess when this girl will decide she's hungry lol!

Sol is a binky maniac from being the NICU lol he can't hardly not have SOMETHING in his mouth (if he had is way it'd be boob 24/7, but he accepts binky as 2nd best lol)

I was fortunate enough to be able to stay in a hotel right next to the hospital while he was in the NICU so I was at the NICU for all but around 5 hours when I'd go sleep, and I held him most the time I was there... Now- I can't put him down!! He will not tolerate being apart much at all, which we are trying to work on... Can't hold him forever- I have to pee/eat/ clean house etc :haha:

My little big guy has some quirks too. He still sucks his thumb, I tried breaking him from it now that he's a year old (10.5 months adjusted) but there's no way. He also still sleeps the way the nurses would position him after feedings-on his belly with his butt in the air LOL

I haven't noticed too many quirks.

LO is not really on the 3 hour schedule. He wouldn't wake up at 3 hours if I didn't make him to eat, but sometimes he wakes up at 1.5 or 2 hours, but then the next time he'd sleep right past 3 hours!

I didn't let him have pacifiers or bottles in the NICU. I was breastfeeding him at least once a day from about 5 days old, he didn't get fed by tube until he was 3 days old (IV only before that). He doesn't seem to associate the tube area with feeding, he roots around for boob!

He does self settle very well and doesn't require much holding. They would not allow me to do much kangaroo care in the UV lights for the jaundice. He loves being held, but he seems perfectly fine to be swaddled in bed. On that note, he does like (well, he doesn't do well when he isn't) to be swaddled, like they did him all the time.

haha i think i have some quirks too quote "i nearly had a brady when i thought i'd left my wallet in the cafe!" and i used to call the ward's big industrial expressing machines 'expresso machines' so i now call my little breast pump my mini expresso machine hehe

caffeine was her 'coffee'
