Audrey Elizabeth is here!!!
Born at 3:17am, at 39+1 weeks, December 25th 2013, safe and healthy at home. She weighs 7lbs and is 20 inches long.
Early Labor
On Dec 17th I started having regular contractions after dtd, that continued through the night.
Dec 18th they ramped up to painful ones that came every 4 mins lasting over a min, but later that night they suddenly stopped.
The night of December 22nd I had regular contractions 6 mins apart for several hours and baby dropped quite low in my pelvis.
The morning of December 23th I started loosing little pieces of my bloody show, which continued throughout the day. I had irregular contractions, but nothing too intense. Lots of cramping and pressure though.
December 24th I had woke up with intense cramping and pressure, although I only had maybe 8 contractions the whole day. Our friend S came over for dinner and convinced DH and I to go see The Hobbit 2 that night. We dropped DS off at S's parent's house and went to the 9:55pm showing in extreme 3D. I had a few intense contractions during the movie.
We got home a little after 1am and I was exhausted! DS and I got in our jammies and snuggled into bed. At 1:35am I heard/felt two odd pops and instantly knew what had happened. I felt pretty wet, so I yelled out to DH, who was downstairs setting up for Christmas morning. He stayed with DS (who woke up when I shouted) while I rushed, dripping, downstairs. Toilet paper wad, my thickest pad and then back upstairs. DH laid down some Chux pads and I laid back down with DS, thinking I'd be fine to get some sleep before anything happened. Txted my midwife, telling her that I wasn't having any contractions yet.
Active Labor
After 15 mins, DS was back asleep and I could tell I was going to ruin the mattress really quickly if I stayed in bed. Went back downstairs, took off my soaked pad & undies and WHAM! contraction! Like, holy f'ing mother of mary where did this come from and make it stop.
DH set up the couch with chux pads so I could sit down under a blanket and 5 mins later, another BIG contraction hit. I was just gushing water and bits of blood. I could tell sitting wasn't going to be comfortable, so DH laid out the waterproof pad and a million more chux pads on the floor in front of the couch. I ended up kneeling with my arms on the couch for the entire time. He got things ready, and contractions came faster and harder in like no time at all! I barely had any rest and I was feeling loads of pressure. DH rubbed my lower back and held my hand, and in between contractions he offered me water.
Transitional Labor
DH was txting the midwife back and forth and then at 2:30am, I felt something change in the way the contractions felt, so I screamed, "Tell her to get her butt over here NOOOOOOOOW!!!" DH called her, and luckily she was on her way already. I started clenching and tensing up - I was scared that I would have the baby before the midwife got there! Thankfully, she got to our house about 15 mins later and I started releasing my muscles and attempted to relax during contractions.
Around 3:05am I felt some burning, and my body started pushing.
At 3:15am, baby crowned and I was able to reach down and feel her head! I was trying so hard to push gently but it was so hard - I am pretty sure I started shouting "Get her out of me!!" But I didn't push long, she came right out, hands curled up in her face.
I immediately ripped off my shirt and held her close while DH and the midwife got things situated for me on the couch. We snuggled under a sheet and about 15 mins later I felt pushy again. Delivered the placenta and it stayed in a big mixing bowl between my legs until the cord stopped pulsing. Then the midwife cut it and showed us this crazy knot in her cord!
DS slept through the whole thing! He woke up when the midwife left around 5:30am, but DH went up and settled him, got me situated on the couch and then the boys slept upstairs in bed and us girls stayed on the couch the first night.
We are both healthy and doing fantastic! And I am so proud of my body, it did exactly what it was supposed to do - abet a bit fast haha!
