Charlie's nearly 7 months and I'm finding buying baby porridge expensive. I have read somewhere on the forum that Readybrek is a good alternative, is this right and is it ok to feed my baby? If so do you make it with baby milk? Sorry I'm new to this lol! Thanks:wacko:

It's fine and you can use whole milk. Weetabix is good too!

i might try this - we have been using 7+ porridge and DD doesn't seem to like it cos its really lumpy (I think its ridiculously sweet too!)

thanks for asking the question!

I used the baby ones for my ds and for the amount it cost and the amount you got it was getting silly. So with my dd we have been giving her readybrek first with her milk but now with
Cows milk and I even add a bit of fruit purée
Too

Be careful, there's a lot of salt in Ready Brek and a baby sadly passed away after being fed it (but baby was very young, only 3 months or something... Google it for more info). So maybe ask your HV first our do proper research.

There is no more salt or sugar in readybrek than there is in baby porridge - less than in some. I have compared the labels. In the case you are talking about they also fed their baby salty gravy with mashed potatoes and other salty foods. It was not the readybrek that was at fault.

^^^ what she said! no added salt or sugar at all in ready break! it's just rolled oats from memory.

I always just used normal porridge, don't see a problem with it.

Sorry, I made that old mistake of reading headlines and not fully reading the article. I was actually wanting to feed my LO Ready Brek, did a search and it came up with this Guardian article. Read the headline and byline and skimmed the article and it's stuck in my mind ever since that Ready Brek is bad for babies. Doh! I should've properly checked before scare mongering!

No worries. There is a lot of misinformation out there and it's often spread by the media, who I think should know better.

Yep DS1 loved readybrek with mashed banana (and some maple syrup when older)

I've always used ready brek, my lo has a milk allergy and most baby porridges contain milk.

I use almond or hazelnut milk because he has an allergy otherwise I'd just use whole milk.

Absolutely no sugar or salt in ready brek!
