Really? Everyone regrets buying activity mats +++? (say it isn't so!)

Hi ladies,

I've been reading the thread with purchase regrets and have noticed a lot of things come up that I'm surprised about. But, maybe it's because the thread is only those who regret it, and others don't?

I mean, if you read the amazon reviews for some of these things (like the lovely activity gym I chose, or the double electric breast pump I purchased) you'd think they worked out very well for people...

Please tell me that you liked some of the things that others didn't. These can't all be worthless products, right? Right??

What's good and fun for one baby isn't necessarily the same for another. We bought a mat and I was sure he would love it. He doesn't. He could really care less lol. My friend has the same one and her LO loves it, spends time playing on it everyday.

Maddox loves his activity mat! It has dangling toys at one end and a piano at the other, and it can be converted for tummy time, back play, or sitting upright. We got it as a shower gift, and it was one of the best gifts we received.

My LO loves his play gym and it has saved my sanity. He has been playing it for close to an hour at a time since 7 weeks or maybe sooner. Also I had a single elctric brews pump and I got a double electric Medela recently. It's amazing!!!!! I've tried a manual and I would shoot myself if I had to do that everyday.

It's all trial and error. You'll buy stuff for your baby that they'll probably hate or never use. And you'll buy stuff for them that they love and that become your most valued possessions!

But there's no way of knowing what's going to be right for your baby before they're here, unfortunately.

My 3 months old daughter likes her activity mat. but one day, as she become more mobile, she probably outgrow it. i thought she would love the swing like my ODS did but she hated it but loves her bouncer seat. with my ODS, he loved the swing but hated the bouncer seat. Babies come with different peraonality and preferences. you have to figure out what works for them.

Ah! We forewent the swing for the bouncer as well. We really just didn't have room for the swing. I hope he likes the things we bought, I think I'll be devastated if we spent money on all the wrong things. :/ I get it, though, different baby equals different likes/dislikes, but it's sure good to hear some mothers reporting positively on some of the things we bought. I was getting worried, but sounds like it's at least 50/50 anyhow.

We didn't buy the diaper genie or a wipes warmer (although I did get a wipes dispenser because I hate the cheapo ones that come with the natural wipes). I feel like there's lots of stuff we didn't buy, so that's good anyhow. Just hope he likes what we bought so far. Especially the Beco Gemini carrier!

I LOVE my activity gym!!!! LO loves it! I'd definitely buy it again!

and I have a single breast pump and I'm constantly complaining about how I wish I would have just gotten the double... I feel like I lose so much milk when pumping because when I let down I let down hard on both sides and have no way to collect the other milk, without leaning over and draining into a bottle or something (but that's just annoying)

don't worry, there are a lot of purchases some people regret that others love... I bought a changing pad and regret it.. I never ever use it.. I just change her on the bed, but I know people who love theirs! I love my bassinet, but I have a friend who has never used hers more than twice! Just depends on the baby and you! Don't worry! You can always sell something if it doesn't work out

Every baby is different. My son hated it. And I have two breastpumps but I just didn't react well with them and couldnt get anything out. Wipe warmers were usless too. Come to think of it he hardly uses his jumperoo, swing, bumbo, bouncer. He used them, but I didnt get my moneys worth. Oh well, I'll still have them for the next baby, cause s/he might LOVE them.

playmat - i never bought one, a friend let me borrow hers and ds loves it! i'm only sad that since we have one i can't go out and buy him a shiny new one as it would be a waste of money. i think we have a vain baby as he loves looking at himself in the dangly mirror.

My LO has an activity may but as she can't reach the dangling toys she won't stay on it for long. She's at the stage where she likes to put things in her mouth lol.
So, I have a single electric pump but never got any milk and I've just hired a double pump from a hospital as they are more powerful and it's a lot better. X

Love our activity gym it has been my saviour so many times. Lo is rolling now but still loves the toys hanging from it. We bought a mirror to go with and are very thankful we did.

We were given 2 play mats and both daughters have loved them. I wouldn't bother with tummy time mats though. They've only been around for a couple of years and the concept of tummy time I relatively new and millions if babie s have learnt to crawl for hundreds of years!

My little girl liked hers just I thought it was rubbish real quick. I didn't have a cheap one (£35+ i think) either! Mine didn't have lights or sound though and maybe something like that would be better! X

Both my lo's have loved the play gym and the walker, bouncer and doorway bouncer! Didnt really like the bumbo or the swing they are all different x x x

My LO hated her activity mat up until a couple of weeks ago. Now she happily lies on it playing for anything up to 45mins. She can grab all the toys now, make it play music and tries to perfect rolling over on it. It was my brothers gift to her and she loves it xx

my lo was never really interested in hers and by 4 months she wouldnt stay on it as she was able to roll. however my friends daughter loved her play gym. i suppose like pp said what one baby likes another one may not. also could be down to what play gym you buy too.
