Hi ladies,
I hope someone can offer me advice, or even just some reassuring words of wisdom.
My DS is 3.5 weeks old and nearly two weeks ago I got mastitis, felt awful... Fluey, rock hard HUGE boob, sick, high temp etc. the doc gave me a week of anti bs which helped with the flu feeling but not the extrucating pain constantly. A week later it was still the same so I go back to the docs and am given another week of anti bs. Still no improvement. Infact today I feel worse than ever and my OTHER breast is bright red and hard now!
I feel so passionately about breastfeeding and DS is on the boob alllll the time and my milk is coming through fine, it's just so so painful I'm literally on my knees. Evenings being the worst as he wants to cluster feed.
I'm drinking loads, massaging, using compresses, cabbage leaves etc.
I'm nearly at the end of my second week of anti bs and today my temp is 38.5.
Has anyone got any advice (or hugs lol).

Thanks in advance xx

Go in again, today, mastitis can be serious if it doesn't go away.

So sorry! I had this with my first daughter.i kept nursing through it and it was excruciating. Had ten days worth of antibiotics, twice. Still was so sick and so painful. I eventually had to go to a surgeon to have it aspirated ( drained with a needle) yes that was unpleasant, but considering the torture I had been through for the three weeks, it was such a relief. I had to go back to have it drained a second time, and then at my third checkup I was good to go. I had tried everything, cabbage leaves, massage, warm compresses, continued to nurse in diff positions, and of course two rounds of antibiotics. It was just one of those things with me.. None of that helped. Anyhow, not sure if this will be the end result, but cont going to your doctor because it is serious and I KNOW how painful it is. Sending hugs and hope, keep seeking treatment, nursing is so worth it ( I went on to nurse my daughter for a long time after all of this)

Oh no how horrible. Hope you feel better real soon. X

Anti-biotics, if they are going to work, should start to work in under three days. You should go back to the doctor.

Thank you ladies - sorry you had such a horrible time Jules, it's really painful huh?!
I went back to the docs today as I feel so awful and have been given my 3rd lot of anti bs - some super duper broad spectrum ones apparently so praying they work very soon :(
Thanks for your support xx
