recent miscarriage at 8 wks.

Hi everybody, i'm looking for some advise really, i had bleeding since week 5 of my pregnancy, went for a scan last friday and they said the baby had no heartbeat. I went into hospital yesterday to have a D and C and the hospital advised me that from a sample i gave my dr's back in early september showed i had a urine infection ( the drs have failed to contact me telling me this ) Does anybody know if urine infections can cause miscarriages? As i am very concerned.

Hello Ticklemonster. I really don't think a urine infection can cause miscarrige, As urine infections are so common during all stages of pregnancy. Im not 100% sure that they don't but I think its very unlikley. Your doctor will be able to help you more,

I'm sad for you. I hope you have lots of love around you right now. Here's some for you. As for your question, please please please don't feel that anything you did or didn't do would have changed what happened. Most early M/Cs happen because the pg isn't viable, so whether or not you had a urine infection almost certainly wouldn't have changed anything. I know it's really hard to not think about all the things you did ... "should I have eaten that?", "should I have slept more?", "should I have done less/more exercise" ... but certainly I have found that the best thing is to think instead about the beautiful baby that we will make soon (please, please) and to be positive about that instead.

I think urine infections can cause early labor later in pregnancy but I've never heard of it causing a miscarriage.

No, UTIs can not cause miscarriages. I had one too when I had my first m/c. But that's not why it happened.

so sorry for your loss, I had a mmc in aug and was 8+2, I also had a uti, but this wasnt the cause of the mmc, sorry x
