Hello everyone, I wanted to share my birth story:

I was supposed to be in induced on November 19 2012, I had high blood pressure, and my Dr was mildly concerned (it wasnt through the roof), i was called that morning and they pushed me back a day (which is very common), but they did have me come in for a non stress test. Everything was good, my baby was happy, and my blood pressure was a little high, but not out of control. The next day the hospital called and they had to push my induction back AGAIN, this time they said my DR. will not allow me ot be pushed back again, I would be induced the next day for sure.

This brings us to the 21st of November, I was 39 weeks on the nose. I was disappointed to be pushed back another day and tried to stay busy to keep my mind off it. I noticed in the afternoon I hadn't felt my baby move much, so I had a glass of cold juice, ate something sweet and laid down in bed. Still nothing. I was feeling uneasy about it so I called labour and delivery to see what i should do, and they suggested i come down for another non stress test. I called my DH at work and told him my plan, and let him know I'm sure I'm overreacting, and that I will be home before he gets off work.

To the hospital I go... They hooked me up and the machine wouldn't read my babys heart rate correctly, it couldn't record it, so they switched out the machine, again it wouldn't record. The nurse called in the Dr. who checked my cervix, took a look at the machine and calmly told me that sometimes if the babys heart rate is too high the machine won't be able to pick it up. So they took me to get an ultrasound, which is when the Dr told me I had to go in for a C section IMMEDIATELY, I was so upset and scared, I said I had to call my husband, and as I was on the phone they were prepping me and taking me to the operating room. The nurses and Dr's were amazing, they were so kind and supportive especially since i was there by myself. THey had my baby out so fast my husband didnt even make it in time.

It turns out her heart rate was 280bpm!

They took her straight down to NICU and had to shock her in order to get her heart rate down. My little girl was born with two heart conditions SVT (which caused her heart rate to spike) and VSD (small holes in her heart), she was born with no left ear,and shortly after birth she was diagnosed with Goldenhar Syndrome, which is a condition that caused the left side of her face to develop at a slower rate then the right side. I also found out that her umbilical cord was wrapped around her so tightly it was starting to break.

All of these issues are completely unrelated to one another, I couldn't believe it. The day after she was born we spent it listening to specialists, they were throwing info at us like crazy. Everytime I sat down someone else wanted to talk about her. Luckily she was effected very mildly by the Goldenhar, the only really obvious physical issue is her missing left ear, her face looks symmetrical and you wouldn't notice the difference unless I pointed it out. The SVT is something we'll just have to be aware of, and know the signs in case it occurs again, the VSD does not require surgery.

My LO spent a week in the NICU before coming home, and i have since booked her 5 appointments with different specialists to make sure nothing else is effected by her Goldenhar and heart problems.

She's now 5 weeks old and has grown so much! She's a beautiful baby, who recently started sleeping all day and partying all night :haha: !

We've had one big milestone since coming home, I have pretty much been exclusively pumping since she was born, she has had very little interest in breast feeding (ive always given her the breast first in hopes of her latching), until Christmas, we sat down to feed, I offered her my breast and she latched on like a pro! It was amazing! I absolutely LOVE breastfeeding my little girl :-)

This was a long story, but baby and bump is one of the places I feel comftorable telling my story and explaining my daughters condition, I have a hard time putting a name to it when talking to my friends (only my immediate family knows all the details). I find that makes it more real when I say she has Goldenhar Syndrome, and I fear people will look at my baby differently.

Thanks for reading!
