My 5 week old daughter has terrible reflux. We've got her on a new medication as her ranitidine was failing her. She's also tried almost all types of baby milk here in the US. She's done best on lactosfree and soya milk. Her doctor doesn't believe she has an allergy or intolerance. He's just saidto try baby milks till I found one that works. I'm not comfortable with her on lactose free or soya because many studies have proven that it isn't necessary unless there is a proven allergy. Lactose intolerence is very rare in infants since breastmilk has lactose. I am trying to wean her from the soya baby milk and onto cow and gate comfort. Any suggestions?

Are you sure she doesn't have a cows milk protein allergy? I too have read it's very rare, but if she's doing best on soy that may be the culprit. It's not necessarily a lactose allergy, but an allergy to a protein in cows milk specifically that can be found in a mother's breastmilk if she consumes dairy.

If you'd like to wean her off of that particular formula, I would slowly mix the new formula in with the old. For example, if she eats 6 ounces, perhaps feed 4 ounces of the old formula and 2 ounces of the new formula for a week. Then gradually increase the amount of the new formula until she's drinking in 100% of the time.
