Yesterday my brother and his wife had a new baby boy, which I am very happy about. However they named him the same name as we were going to use for our baby boy (due in March). We have only ever had one baby boy name (the same one for nine years actually). My brother didn't know, we just have the same taste I guess. Anyway we are now totally stuck as to what to call our baby. We wanted a hispanic name to reflect my husband's latino background, however we live in a country where there are hardly any latino's so it needs to be pronouncable to people who can't speak spanish. Some ideas?

I found this link, maybe it will help?? :hugs:

How about Gabriel, Angelo, Rico? They are Hispanic names yet mainstream and easy to pronounce!

When i was preggo with my son i was planning to name him Tyler and then my cousin gave her son the middle name Tyler 3 months before my son was born! It was so upsetting to me! Now my brother's OH is preggo and i'm so worried they will (unknowingly) use one of my fav names! It's nerve wracking! Lol

Good luck... i hope you guys fall in love with another name.

What was the name your brother used???

I made the mistake of telling a girl, who I cannot stand for other reasons and now to include this one, who was pregnant what we were going to name our daughter... Ava Makenzie... She STOLE THE ENTIRE NAME!!! I was PISSED! My husband was too and he said something to her! She giggled! Stupid girl! It still makes me mad! LOL I LOVED the name Ava and now I can't use it! :(

What a cow to do that to you! I also loved the name Ava but a so called celeb in the UK called Mylenne Class called her daughter Ava and I just can't use it now as Mylenne is such a smug know all, look at me kind of person, especially about motherhood-like she is the only person who has ever had a child. Grrrr I feel for you.

Yeah She is a Cow! A B word too, LOL! I still can't stand her and when I hear someone say her name, I cringe!! LOL

I got the name from Ava Gardner and she totally ruined it! :( I'm still mad about it, lol.

The name we had was Ruben, my brother has used for my nephews middle name, spelt 'Reuben'. Would it still be alright to use it as a first name if they have it for a middle name? MommyTammy, I have the name Gabriel on my new list, I liked Rico but my husband is from Puerto Rico, so I don't know if that would be weird. The ones I have come up with in the last 24 hours are;
Sebastian
Alejandro (this was our original middle name)
Nico
Javier or Xavier
I really like Rafael but think it might sound a bit too prissy (not male enough).

I would definitely still use it for a first name if it was only used as a middle name. I also love Alejandro and I think Rafael is nice too and definitely manly.

Alejandro, Sebastian and Gabriel are all really great. If there is something that you don't want to use as first name, maybe would work as second name?

I think Nico is really cute! xx

i honestly wouldn't let that stand in the way of naming my child what i originally planned for her.
the other girl is not a relative is she? just somebody you happen to know and will most likely not see much of in the future

Thanks. I would not mind but it is possible we can run into her again and I HATE the girl so much for so many different reasons that I hate thinking about her. makes my mood change fast, lol. We found another name already too that we both love so much more!!!

I wouldnt let the fact that they used the name for the middle name affect my decision. If they had used it as the first name then I would hesitate. I think that if you like it that much that you should still use it. If you didnt want to, the other names I like are Gabriel (be prepared for him to be known as Gabe, tho) and Rico (I like the way it sounds and the fact that OH is from Puerto Rico is actually kind of cool, IMO. It makes me like the name more for the baby instead of the other way around. Its another way to honor the heritage.)

I think I say this about Myleene class every week. I cannot stand her. She thinks shes a bloody know it all.

My bosses name is Jacobo (pronounced JA-CO-BO). Some people call him Jake...but we all like it. Different and distinguished (he is the CEO)... :-)

I would use it as a first name too, if it's only your nephews middle name. Hell, if my sister called her baby boy the name I'm calling mine (Aidan), i'd still use it if i loved it that much lol. As for the name Rico, i love it! But we've settled on Aidan and although there's so many nicer names out there, my boy's name is Aidan. Also i love the name Nico too, very nice and fresh i think.

xx

This happend to me. At my hen 'do in June one of my friends who was due to pop the next month was telling everyone that if her baby was a boy his name was sorted as they were going to use her hubbys name but they still hadn't settled on a girls name that they could agree on - my SIL then listed the names that she liked and then said "Louise's favourite name is Kaitlyn isn't it, Louise?". I love my SIL to bits but could've killed her!! Anyway thought nothing more of it until I got the news that my mate had had her baby, a little girl and called her Kaitlin! Different spelling but still i'm a bit miffed!

i agree, if they arent related to me i would just name my baby the name i wanted. serves them right for stealing a name that you picked - stick with it!!!!
i have chosen to keep names private from women who are pregnant at the moment, because of this very thing. i dont ask about names either because i dont want anyone to be afraid that i {of all people} would steal a name.
some people's creativity has left the building...
