This might be dumb, but I am wondering if while my body is trying to regulate cycles after the mc (this is my first natural cycle), it might somehow release an egg from both sides? I do get O pains, but always on one side or the other. Had a positive opk yesterday and today am feeling my O pains--but on both sides! It will happen on the left and I will be convinced the egg is coming from the left, and then later I will get it on the right and be convinced that it must not have been O pain on the left and that the egg is coming from the right.

I did a bit of googling, and apparently it happens... but mostly to women taking clomid. Is it possible that my body is just confused and trying to regulate and happened to mature and release two eggs naturally? I have no idea whether fraternal twins come from maturing two eggs on the same side or one egg from each side... Which is why this might be a stupid question. I guess I could google that. Lol.

Maybe I am just forgetting exactly what O pain feels like after a few months, or even mistaking random cramps for O. Anyway... thoughts?

Google says twins can come from same ovary or one from each. Hmmm...

But twins don't really run in my side of the family (a set of great aunts are the only twins in my family), but my husband is a twin and his (not twin) brother had twin girls. We would love to have twins, but find that it would be pretty unlikely with it not being common in my family.

But still feeling like I have O pains on both sides. If I did ovulate from both sides, I would probably chalk it up to a wonky cycle after the mc. I guess we will see!!!!

I'm filling my own thread. Lol.

I also found this group. Apparently multiples after miscarriage is more common than people know. https://babybumpapp.com/community/groups/119-twins-or-more/posts/2379534-multiples-after-miscarriage

dh is thrilled about this possibility with him being a twin. I am kind of terrified/excited. Hope we catch the egg(s)!

I am sorry to hear about your loss, I don't usually get O pains but if you are used to them and you recognize them...

I hope that you get your rainbow, and if it is twins that would be awesome!!

It is definitely possible! This is how "fraternal" twins (rather than identical) are made. Double ovulation also tends to run in families. :) I had two eggs released and fertilized for the pair that I lost this autumn.

Fingers are crossed for you, and twins would be amazing! Good luck!!!

I had the same thing this time too! I felt the twinge on both sides.

Lord, I do not want twins. I don't think I can handle it!

yes, it can happen! perhaps you'll end up with some rainbow twins ;)

Oooooh! I really think I am dropping an egg on both sides. Now that I know it is possible, I am paying attention to the pains I am feeling and they are definitely my normal O pains. If I really am Oing on both sides, I hope we catch both eggs! How fun (and scary) to have twins!

Yep hyperovulation is relatively common (as in more than 1% of the time two or more eggs are released) and can happen from the same side, or both sides. And sometimes happens a week aoart even. With ultrasound happening earlier its been discovered that multiples are far more common than anyone had realised, often resulting in vanishing twin syndrome though.
Hyperovulation does run in families, and is more common on closed and from other fertility boosting supplements, but that doesn't mean it won't happen to you if you don't have any "risk factors" I believe the likelihood of hyperovulation increases as menopause gets closer as well, something about the body trying to compensate for decreased egg quality.

It does make sense that the chance if hyperovularion would be increased following a miscarriage as well as our reproductive system would want to get us pregnant to replace the lost baby as quick as possible.

Natalie, that was super informative. Lol. I feel very educated now. Bravo to you for knowing all that!

I am a wealth of useless information :haha:
