I'm a little down in the dumps, what with being made redundant, relocating, not having any money coming in for 2 months... I've now got another stress to add to my list of worries... Credit ratings.

My future MIL has been talking to my OH and has said that my credit rating might affect us renting a house.... He obviously has an amazing credit rating so he won't bring it down in his Mum's eyes, but mine will... Even though she knows nothing of my credit account :growlmad: Anyway...

I have about 6K in debt, 3k of which gets cleared in 2012 :happydance:, I always pay everything on time, I've never had any missed payments... But i've had to ring up my loan company and o2, and put off any payments for 2 months because I have nothing to pay them with, I explained my redundancy situation and how I have a new job but dont get paid until 31st March, they were all fine with me... But my MIL seems to think because of this, I'M going to affect us renting a property, subsequently bring her beautiful amazing Son down with me!

If my OH has an excellent credit rating, and mine is OK, but might go a bit funky because of this redundancy issue, would it really affect us being able to rent a property?

I'm so stressed up to the eyeballs

You will be fine hun. They dont look in to it the same way as they would if you where applying for a loan. Me and my partner have bad credit and we rent of an estate agency. If your really worried put his name 1st. But i dont think yours would be that effected as you have rung up and told them.

That's reassuring to know hun :) Thank you.

Grrr... Interfering MILs are so annoying :(

i wasnt aware that landlords did credit checks or were even able to

Don't worry hun, I have poor credit and my OH doesn't have the best credit either but we have rented for a few years now. When he first started renting I was a student so the landlord requested a guarantor but since then we have had no problems and haven't needed a guarantor x

Yeah its not the same check as a credit check dont worry.

mine and oh rating is appaling but we got our house no worries :)

My hubby had good credit but mine is terrible. We had no problems getting our rented house recently so hopefully you will be ok :)

don't think you will have a problem. my OH was in quite a bad situation (mainly because his Mum had maxed out a credit card he thought he had got rid off but she had been getting the post first so he knew nothing about the spending!) and we were able to rent a house.

i think as long as you pay your rent on time it isn't a problem.

Well just to update you both... No issues here with our house! We passed the checks. I said how concerned I was, and they reassured me it wasn't like apply for a mortgage or a loan, it was just to see if we were criminals etc haha!

All is good :D x

see told you hun. Congratulations. I new it wasnt the same as applying for money. Wish you a wonderful time in your new home xx
