After 2 miscarriages and 2 CP I made an appt with one. Just wondering what to expect?

Hi AJR14 - I am sorry to hear about your previous loses. I can tell you its a little different depending on the RE you go to. My experience when I made my first appointment, they sent me a package of papers to fill out (medical history for both people). The first office visit was a consultation with doctor we went over everything. 2nd appointment was blood work and ultrasound, they requested SA from DH. Then I had 2 procedures (HSG/SONO) to check my reproductive systems, then based on results they put together a game plan.

I hope this helps and good luck!

Hello! Where are you near in the United States, if you don't mind me asking?

I found this in the "new posts" feature and thought I would respond.

My obgyn sent us to a RE after only a few months of infertility issues, because my first pregnancy ended in my son being stillborn around 30 weeks. He didn't want me to have to wait longer and go through different things with him. He wanted a specialist in on it right away.

My obgyn ordered a HSG before sending me to make sure everything was clear and he said that would be the first thing the RE would do. If you haven't gotten one it is where they shot dye into your uterus and it ideally goes through your tubes and out your ovaries showing nice open tubes. It could also alert of any blockages.

Due to my past pregnancy, my RE wanted to run multiple tests on me. He did a multiple miscarriage panel and sent me to a genetic specialist who tested for over 170+ genetic disorders that I could have been a carrier of.

After that, he concluded there wasn't a physical reason for us not getting pregnant. He didn't want to intervene heavily at first. We started with an ultrasound every cycle to make sure that my ovary was creating an egg by itself and on schedule.

He usually would have me take a hcg shot when he saw the egg at the right place which would basically boost the egg and make sure it released. This is used for iui's a lot of times, but he had us use it for timed trying to close the ovulation window.

He then after a few cycles added in some progesterone at certain dates in my cycle, so that my body would be more adapted to pregnancy.

It was emotionally stressful and financially not very cheap. We took a break every few months, because seriously it can get very emotionally heavy.

I believe the hormones messed me up, because I started not ovulating.. which was never a problem for me. At this point we decided to take a few month break .. still taking my folic acid med etc (for issues that came up in the blood work and casually trying). I ended up pregnant the first month after my cycle regulated itself after we took a break from it all!

I love my RE, even though we got pregnant while on a break. He was so understanding and definitely proactive to find issues. He brought me in for a 6 week u/s to make sure baby was doing fine before releasing me back to my obgyn.

Sorry for the book! I wanted to share my experience with you and wish you the very best!

I know a few people who went to the same RE as me (how I found him) who conceived through IVF. I was lucky to not have to get that far.
