Hi Ladies,

I am not returning to work until March but have already decided that I would prefer (and can only afford!) to return 2 or 3 days a week.

Was wondering if anyone was succesfull in requesting to return part time and if its not too cheeky  if i could see a copy of your request letter so i know what type of letter i need to draft for my boss  clueless at the minute!!

Thanks in advance girls! x

Hey!

Didn't want to read and run, but I don't have a letter to show you, since I talked to my boss in person about working part-time. But thankfully she took it really well. She understood that since I just had a baby, I would want to work less in the beginning. I thought she wouldn't approve of it, because she's an older lady with no kids (who can't really compare to my life, I'm 20 years old and just had my first baby). But yeah, she is very supportive surprisingly. In my opinion I would talk to your employer if possible? It's sort of like one of those things you don't usually say in a letter, it's kind of like if you're going to tell them you quit, you tell them in person rather than in a letter! But it's completely up to you how you want to do it! It's not too cheeky at all though, I'm sure your employer will be very supportive of you!

Thanks, i'm going to check my return date tomorrow and arrange to go in for an appointment with my boss to discuss going back part time.

Just really hope they say yes! Really nervous that they will say no and i will have to resign! :nope::cry:

Let me know how it goes!! Good luck :hugs:

Well here is my draft of the letter i am going to send it..........what do you think??

Dear XXXXX,

After much careful consideration I
wish to return to work, following
my maternity leave, on a part time
basis.

Therefore please accept this letter
as my formal request, under the
statutory right to apply for
flexible working - The Employment
Act of 2003, to reduce
my number of working hours
following my return to work after
the end of my maternity leave.

As a new mother I ask that XXX
consider my request in relation to
the following points:

If I was to return to work on a
part time basis this would benefit
XXX as the company would not be
paying out a full time wage, yet
I would still be able to bring my
experience and knowledge of the
systems in place to the
administration team. Alternativly
I would be happy to work as part
of a job share role should XXX
feel full time hours would be more
beneficial to the business.

I have always worked well as part
of the existing team and feel that
reducing my hours would have no
detriment to this.

I have researched the cost of
local childcare providers and on my
full time wage (also taking into
account my husbands wage) I would
struggle financially to return to
work full time. As I have now
worked for XXX (with my
continuation of employment) for
over 4 years I feel I have a
loyalty to the company and do,
very much so, wish to continue
working for XXX.

I have not requested part time
working before whilst working
for XXX.

I propose that I return to work
at the end of my maternity leave
in March 2011 (date to be
confirmed with X) and work 2
full days a week - totalling 16
hours a week.

Working 8 hours each day with a
half hour lunch and the potential
to accrue half an hour a day as
per the flexi time employee
agreement.

I do not have any preference in
which two days I would work and
am happy to work any two set days
at the request of XXX, to ensure
the days I would work would be
of most benefit to the company.

I ask that you please consider my
request and I would be more than
happy to come into the office to
discuss this further.

Kind regards.
