Hi ive just got a letter from my midwife this morning n its made me panick, saying that my blood group is rhesus negative, and ive been offered a routine prophylactic antenatal Anti D which involves an injection of Anti D immunoglobin at 28-30 weeks of my pregnancy, ive no idea what any of this means lol, are any of you rhesus negative and can explain what this means in a simple way lol? Thanks xx

hi ,
im rhesus neg to ! all it means is you will have a couple of injections during your pg and 1 after baby is born if they have a different blood group.

also if you have a nasty fall or accident while you are pg then you will need to have an extra injec. i think from what i remember it stops your body making to many white cells. baby is completly safe !

i cant explain it any better than the above post but im negative too and its nothing wo worry about..:)
as long as you get the anti D injection:Dx

Like the first post said hun. She explaine it great

I am resus negative. It's nothing to worry about eally :hugs:
xx

i'm rhesus negative (there's quite a few of us about!). i've had to have a few injections due to bleeds (if you have a bleed it's normal to have the anti-d in case the baby is rhesus positive & his / her blood crosses with yours) as well as my 28 week injection. it's nothing to worry about, just something to be aware of.
xx

I am rhesus negative, with my first 2 children they just tested their blood groups and I received an anti D injection with my daughter (+) but not with my son(-). This pregnancy I received an injection at 28 and 34 weeks and will no doubt receive one after I have given birth. It's not really anything to worry about, only if you receive injury to your abdomen or have a bleed!

I'm rhesus negative and i really don't see it as a problem all it really means is that you have to have the anti-D shot if you have any bleeds/falls/injuries past 12wks and after the birth.
The doctors and midwifes tell you all this 'medical huhar' so that if anything happens you have it checked. Its completely normal and nothing to worry about

The aniti d injection is really there to protect any future babies that you may have.
It does not affect current pregnancies or the baby in any way.

If your baby's blood is positive and it mixes with yours, from that moment you body starts to produce antibodies.
In subsequent pregnancies, if you haven't had the anti d, if your baby's blood again is positive and some mixes into yours then your body will start to attack it and this then causes problems with the baby.

During my first 2 pregnancies (18 and 13 years ago) Anti d was only offered after birth IF the baby was rhesus positive.
With my third they wanted to give me it at 28 and 32 weeks but I refused as I know for definate there will be no more babies for me!!

Not quiet true, I'm afraid, I developed Rhesus diesease in a first pregnancy for no obvious reasons and it was bad enough to effect the baby (he's fine now, thankfully). As the others have said, if you have a baby with rhesus positive blood and it mixes with yours, then you will develop antibodies - much like with a virus- and these antibodies can attack the baby. It's very rare so everything should fine and dandy as long as you get the injection, and if you have any traumas.

Im negative too, had all the shots with my first son now Im 12 weeks with baby #2 and will be getting them this time too. Just a shot kinda upper butt area, a little tender after for a few days but no big deal and for sure worth it if you plan to have more kids :)
