I was just wondering if any other women in the LTTTC section has taken roaccataine in the past? It's a drug for severe acne.

I ask because I remember having to sign something to say that if I fell pregnant while taking it or within 6 months of stopping, I'd agree to have an abortion, because it can cause abnormalities.

Bit random I know

i never heard of it ...but it's good information..but would that be your own choice to decide if you wanted to keep your bean ? they make you sign something? weird no?

No, I had to sign something to say that if I fell pregnant while taking it or within 6 months afterwards that I would terminate the pregnancy because of the severity of the abnormalities and that I had been informed etc. So instead of using contraception, I just didn't have sex, - simple as that. I don't believe in abortion in many cases so I didn't want to risk getting pregnant. That was long before I had all of the problems that I have now though, I was just a typical reasonably healthy 16 year old but had the mother of all acne.

i guess they make you sign something just in case the woman who wanted to keep it could not file for lawsuit against them etc...because how would they know if a person did get prego or not?

medical records?? :dohh:

YES my sister was on it, and has had so many problems.......... Since taking it over 10 years ago she has never had a proper period, she was fien before. She was on hrt at like 16 for a while, and cant have periods on her own. I don't want to scare you but she has been told she pcould have problems ttc and when she starts to go straight to the dr, we cant prove its related, but were pretty sure thats what caused it. Obviosuly like anything drugs effect diff people in diff ways so im sure there are plenty of women who have taken it and fallen preg quickly.

How long ago where you on it?

I was on it about 9 years ago. I was ok with my periods afterwards tbh, but I got a condition that knacked my nerves up, did summit wacky to my brain including the part that deals with controlling the hormones, so my periods are irregular because of that.

roaccutane stops the oil production in your glands which in turn would hopefully reduce your acne......you can have really dry skin because of the tablets...wherever you would normally secrete oil...e.g your scalp, face, skin on your body....i doubt it has anything to do with your hormones....so i really cant see the link with the periods not coming...that must be a hormonal imbalance thing....also why your sis could have had the severe acne.

So if you became preg while on roaccutane, just imagine what it would do to your unborn baby?....it would affect its skin growth aswell and may even cause deformation and other problems.....hence why you are warned not to get preg while on it or for 6 months after....anyone the remember the thalidomide tragedy? Where women took this new medicine and babies were born with no arms and legs.......cant have a repeat of that, thats why i guess they make you sign a paper...personally i wouldnt risk it.

Many clinics in the US make you sign saying you will use 2 forms of birth control to prevent pregnancy.

So do u think u might be struggling to get preg cos of the roacataine?

Oh i know my uncle went on roacataine after my sister did (we told him not to) and he got symptoms of prostate cancer, VERY scary the dr's were convinced he had it, stopped the meds and it went.

No, I struggle to get pregnant because of irregular periods, when my periods have been fairly regular I've got pregnant fairly soon...just can't hold onto them.

The reason that I ask is that a while ago someone said they'd been on roaccataine and they were a LTTTCer and knew of a few others LTTTCers or something like that...

Yep, it does some nasty stuff. I remember shoving vaseline up my nose to try to stop it cracking inside and having more nosebleeds. Nosebleeds lasted for hours! My lips were disgusting, I had to use alsorts of mositurising stuff (some had to be prescribed) and I was warned not to get sunburned. Factor 35 in the North of England, outside for 3 or 4 hours and I still got sunburned, through clothes!!! and I've now got scars (sorta look a bit like freckles some of them) from blisters and the permanent pigment changes that I was warned would happen. However, I only get normal spots now and I haven't had acne since - before my head, chest, neck and top of my arms were all red and purple - not pretty!
