The day I hit 37 weeks I had an instant surge of relief that I had made it to full term. At 37 weeks 1 day my husband and I came home from work had dinner as normal and started watching TV. I then felt a contraction, which I assumed was braxton hicks and didn't think that much of it because it wasn't very strong. I went to take a bath and I could watch my stomach contracting pretty regularly. Again, I was not thinking much of this because it really didn't hurt and my doctor and everyone else for that matter had been telling me "Oh you wont have her anytime soon, not with your first." Well I got out of the bath and they started getting painful. I went out to the living room and told my husband I think that the contractions are for real they really hurt. I started timing them and they were about 5 1/2 minutes apart and they started getting more and more intense very quickly. This was about 11:00 at night. I had my husband call the hospital and they basically said what I thought they would...keep her home for now and see if they get worse, if they do you can bring her in but most likely we will just send you home. Well I stayed home until midnight when I could not take it anymore and said we were going to the hospital. My husband wheeled me up to the maternity ward in a wheelchair and I swear the nurses looked at me like I was such a weenie
Well I went in and got changed and the nurse then saw me have a contraction and looked kind of surprised but didn't say much. She then decided she would check me and when she did her eyes got huge and said "hun your at a 4 and completely open."
Yeah I told you all it was for real! So basically after that things went very fast I had dialated to a 7 within half an hour and then went to a 9 within an hour. I opted for the epidural and it made my left side numb and didn't work on the right side. I do regret getting the epidural as they didn't get in to give it to me until I was at a 7 and I really just wish I wouldn't have gone through the whole process. I couldn't feel anything on my left side but I could feel the contractions just as strong as before on the right and I actually liked being able to feel them because I knew when to push. While pushing they could see a head and then she would suck back in. The doctor was worried as Ronny's heart rate was dropping and going up so she decided to cut me and use the vacuum to get her out. Once she came out we discovered why she was being pulled back in, she had a short umbilical cord. I have never heard of this but it was so short that the doctor said she needed to cut it and my husband didn't get to. She was perfect
