Ok a bit of background -

My DH had his 1st SA which showed low morphology (3%) so he just had it redone but hasnt been given the numbers this time -
Just a letter from the FS today that says...

"the semen swim up test you had taken on the 23 June 2009 has been reported as suitable for IUI (intrauterine insemination)"

What the hell does that mean????

does it mean there is a problem with us conceiving the 'normal' way?

Im worried now xx

I dont think so, I just think they're saying that the sperm is good enough for IUI and you dont need to go straight to IVF.

Hi hun

My DH has morphology of 8% and he was tested three times - and on the third time the report came back as suitable for IVF - so I agree with Kirstin - that they arent saying its your only option - but that it is good enough if you wanted to move onto other treatments. If the results weren't great and they thought there might be an issue I imagine they would say that ICSI was your only option. I think the fact they say IUI is suitable is a good sign - as with IUI they do have to swim a bit - although they get a helping hand - so sounds positive to me hun!

Bx x x:hugs:

Try not to worry i'm sure kirstin is right and it means that the sperm is good enough quality for iui x

Yeah but we arent having IUI

Im confused

does it mean we need to have IUI in order to get pregnant? xx

I wouldn't have thought so, if quality is suitable for iui i think it would be the same for natural conception because when major SA problems thats when told icsi only option.

They're probably just suggesting the best way forward, you still can conceive naturally with those numbers.

I cant believe this is with the same NHS PCT as me :| They gave us wrong results (told next to no sperm when it was actually asa) then abandoned us:(

Hey sweetie, I'd take it as a reasonably good thing. I'd read that to say the results are not obviously fantastic, but they are good enough for IUI, which on many sites is stated as not being suitable for severe sperm problems.

Personally I think this is also a case of standard letters gone mad......bloody docs tend to completely right off the fact that we might actually acheive things naturally, sometimes and they think of IUI as being the first stop in conception!

I'd give them a call tomorrow, tell them you'd like an explanatory phone call please, but all in all, I don't think they'd say you can conceive with IUI if they thought you couldn't conceive naturally....its just giving it a helping hand. If you can conceive with IUI, you are definitely in with a natural chance! xxxx

Thanks everyone

I'll ring the hospital tomorrow & see if I can get a proper explanation

It just freaked me out that they'd mention IUI when we havent even discussed it

I was reading the letter to mean his morphology is still low (so unlikely to get me preg naturally) - but high enough to be used for IUI (which doesnt help us at all seeing as we arent having it iyswim?) xx

Heya - just found your post and I wondered if you found out any more?

We've just got a 6% result and I don't know anything about it really...

I'm off to find out what IUI is!
