Hi Ladies,

I've asked this over in TTC but no one seems to be able to help me.

We're getting to the stage where we are going to visit the doctors to see about getting some tests done.

For those of you that have done this, what was the procedure for getting hubby's SA done? I'm having a hard time getting hubby to go to the doctors - I can never get him to go when he's ill as it is but he's really worried in case they tell him there's a problem. He's also convinced it will be like on the TV with a nurse waiting at the door and he won't be able to rise to the occasion!

Thank you for your time ladies x

Hi cookiedough,
I'm in Australia, so I'm not sure if the protocol is the same there, but my DH has been able to do his at home, so long as we get the sample in to the clinic within an hour.
Good luck :flower:

Hey hun, when my DF went for his, we went to the doctors and he gave us a help pack, with a jar in for the sperm & a booklet.

We had to ring out local hospital and book an appointment & If required book a deposit room which was 7 days later. He will have an option to make the diposit at home or to use one of there rooms (My DF did his at home he felt more comfortable) but if you do it at home you have to get to the hospital within an hour i think otherwise the sperm would be no good.

When we got to the hospital there was a man at a hatch in a little waiting room and we handed the Sample over in a brown envolope. The man asked what time the deposit was done and if he got it all in the cup and we went.. Done

Not so bad :)

Thank you ladies for your help ladies,

I certainly think it will help if he can do it at home! :)

Your welcome hun My DF was the same, he didnt really want to go because he didnt want any bad news lol but if theres a problem you have to know about it to resolve it x

Our experiemce was very similar to xMissxZoiex apart from we had to be referred to a fertility specialist before he could do the sample and since we went the doctors around Feb /March time OH has only just done his first sample a couple of weeks back!!!

We finally went and asked for our SA test to be done last week. The DR said the appt could be a couple of months away (we're in Bristol) but we were sent home with a plastic cup and an envelope. The instructions say that the "deposit" can be made at home as long as it can be taken to the hospital within an hour - we're about 30-40 minutes away so that should work out ok.

Yep could be a couple of months my OH's was O:)

It's looking like we could be in for a wait too. Hubby was sent away from the docs today and told to contact the hospital himself but of course the hospital don't want to know without a referral.

It annoys me when doctors don't know simple stuff like this!

Hello Everyone. My Dh went to the hospital this morning for his third SA. We're also in Bristol at the BCRM and he phoned up last week and got this appointment so it was pretty quick for him. The other 2 time were also pretty quick too. They have told us that the results will be through within 3 weeks so have booked an appointment with the Dr for the end of August to discuss the results.

The first one he had done he went to the clinic do to it and the result was really good. Then the second one he done at home and dropped it into the clinic. We live about 40mins away. The results of this one were terrible. Then this third one he has gone back to clinic to do it so we'll see if that has any effect or not.

x

We aslo went to the doctor today and he is sending DH for a SA. He also got a cup and can go at home and we just need to get it to the hospital within 1 hour, lucky we live super close to the hospital!

I hope our results come back good!

How come you got a SA after only 3 months hun?

:flow:

Hubby's sorted it now and has his pot ready for his appointment on Friday :)

We're about 45 mins from the hospital and he's insisting on doing it at home  My doctor told me today I should be going with him to 'give him a hand'. He then went on to tell me a story about a previous patient who decided he'd do his sample in the carpark of the hospital behind a newspaper - and got caught by the carpark attendant

It will be interesting to see what results your DH gets this time MillieMoo

We have been NTNP for awhile and only really been trying for the last 3 months. I went to my GP because my cycles are completely wack and I spot for about a week before AF, so he thinks my progesterone levels are low. But he said we might as well check DH aswell.
So just waiting for the results and then we'll see how it goes!
