Hi

well we have been TTC since Sept 08 without any success, i was so sure the problem was with me as i was having some mid cycle spotting that OH only got tested last month! all my tests have come back fine and ovulate every month!

but yesterday OH had a telephone conversation with his doctor regarding his results i wasnt there so i dont known if doc went into more any more detail but OH said the doc said his results read 0 all they way across for everything there is just no sperm at all!! and he needs to repeat the test to see if its a mistake or if it really is the case!!

we are both absolutely gutted as we are so desperate to be parents and cant see our life without children!

I was just wondering if anyone had heard of this before? he is a lorry driver so i know it doesnt help sitting down being all warm down there all day but to have 0?!!

any help would be really appreciated!! x

Waitingginger,

I didn't want to read and run on you, I wish you all the best and fingers x'd his next results are better. Best of luck to you and your OH.

Hi sweetie,
I don't have the answer either but I wanted to add my support.
Definitely wait and see what the second test says. My DH got a count of 1 million on the first test, but 14 million on the 2nd AND the 3rd. We have morphology problems too, which is why we're now trying IVF, but that first test, with the 1 million count was indeed a mistake. Sometimes people in labs do stupid stuff, like leaving samples on the shelf to get cold.
Hope you get a better result with the next one :hugs:

Hello there; just to let you know you're not alone; my DH was diagnosed with that about 6 weeks ago. It's called azoospermia. Its not common, but there are a few other girls on BnB who are in the same position. And some of them have already had a bfp!

It can be caused by a lot of things; high FSH levels, a blockage somewhere, a chromosome abnormailty or there can be a bit of the pipework down there missing.

My DH has had blood tests done to check hormones, chromosomes etc; so we're waiting on those to come back.

There is a good chance that there is sperm in the testicles, & they can get it out with surgery & use it to do ICSI.

So don't worry, it doesn't mean you can't have babies!!!

Feel free to PM me if you want to chat, it's nice to speak to someone in the same situation.

I'm so sorry for these results, but the lab may or made an error, so please remain positive and do the test again.

Did your dh do his sample at the lab, or at home and take it to the lab?
xxx

Hi

Thanks ladies for your kind words!! a total 0 its just so weird but actually makes sense now i have been getting so frustrated that i knew when i was ovulating and we were BDing right days and it wasnt happening!!

I have been reading up about ICSI and IVF! suppose we just need to wait and see what comes back next!! i am only 25 DH 27 so we do have time on our side i suppose but i feel

Ald- yep he did it at the lab! really hoping they have made a mistake but its been 23 cycles and no hint of a BFP so i suspect its right!!

Flake-y thanks for the info its good to know that there is some investigation they will!!

I was the same when we found out; I just knew there was something wrong!

They told me that I had about a 50% chance of ICSI working at my age (I'm 31) so if you're 25 the odds should be even better.

Good luck & I hope you don't have to wait long for all the tests!!

Thanks Jo!

I am hoping so too!! although oh being a bit reluctant at the moment but think he is just really down about it all!! once he goes for the next tests we can get the ball rolling!! and see how long waiting lists are and things!!

Are you still waiting on the results of your OH investigation results? have they said ICSI is the only real option or if its a blockage are they going to operate etc?

x x

Sounds like maybe a blockage to me. our neighbour blurted out he other day her DH had a blockage and he had an op and then bang she was pregnant the next month! Sometimes you don't need to know what your neighbours are up to! haha!

good luck hun, I'm the same age as you with male factor as well and we were told success rates are good.

Thanks Jo!

Well DH has had blood tests done, we're still waiting for them to come back; apparently they can take 6 weeks, cause of the chromosome tests. We've already seen the FS; she basically said that it was ICSI; she didn't mention any other option. I've been doing a lot of research on the net, and from what I've read they can sometimes fix blockages, but it's generally not successful, so it's easier just to take out the sperm & do ISCI.

I think it prob depends on the cause though; if your OH has had any history of probs down there like a twisted or undescended testicle, a variocle (or something spelt like that!) then it's likely to have been caused by that. My DH had an operation to remove a lump from his testicle about 20 years ago, and there's a chance it could have damaged one of the tubes somewhere.

The FS said that if the FSH levels were high then it's likely to be a hormone imbalance; & she did say that if that was the case there was less chance of finding sperm. We've already discussed the possibility of using donor sperm, if it comes to that but hopefully it won't. I read Robert Winston's books & he said it was very rare for there to be no sperm in the testicles at all, they can ususlly get it some way or another! Fingers crossed for us both!

That's funny; you'll never look at your neighbours man the same way again!!

ha ha sounds good!! my OH said 'oh when doc asked me if i had any problems i should of told him about the lump in my balls' lol!! apparently he has had a lump in his left one since he was in Bosnia with the army in 2003! so who knows what it might be!! i just wish he would say to work right i need this day off and its tough i dont care how busy you are!! because the waiting really gets to me!!! I am hoping our age will help!! and if we get put on waiting lists by the time we get to the top it will all be good!!

x

My DH was the same! The FS asked if he had had any previous surgery down there & he said no, and I had to say, "yes, you had that lump removed!". Men probably don't think these things are important! Silly men...

The waiting really gets to me too; esp when you don't know what's going on. My parents are paying for us to have private treatment for ICSI, cause there's at least a 2 year waiting list in Glasgow & that's just soo long. So we're very lucky in that respect. But very unlucky that this has happened to begin with I guess!

I remember reading about the zero sperm count when we were waiting for the SA to conme back & that it affected 2% of the population & I thought "oh, that'd be awful if that happened, but it's not very likely". It seems it is!

I think it sucks we have to go through this stress but I am also really thankful that there's treatment out there for all of us so we can try and have the babies we deserve :)

Years ago there was nothing so we would have been stuck, so when I feel down I try and remember that and then it gives me some more PMA! :) xx

I think about that too!! We are so lucky that there is treatment for us!!

Hi hun

First of all, sending you lots of hugs :hugs:

We had exactly the same news 2 and a half weeks ago and I'm still reeling from it.

I can't really add anything new - I'm at the same stage as Flake-y and have been told EXACTLY the same info she has already told you.

We have our appt with urologist on 12th May and we will hopefully get some more positive news then. Hubby has no history of ops or any of the things they say can cause this. The only thing are wondering is if it's hormonal as he has recently been diagnosed with underactive thyroid and is on meds for it and that's obviously hormone based. We've been told if it's hormonal they can help it with injections

Wishing you all the best
Deb xx

ph thanks deb!! something else i have read has made me think OH has an underactive thyroid!! would be good to here what they have to say!! he is in a really bad place at the moment! he cried his eyes out last night and that is just really not like my oh!! i have never seen him cry! and he keeps saying to me just expect the worse that we will never have children and then you wont be disappointed! i dont know what to do for him!! are your oh like that? i suppose its still a bit raw at the moment!!

Hi hun

I'm sorry you're going through such a difficult time with hubby on top if all this.

I'm just dashing out but didn't want to read and run. I will be in touch later and tell you more about hubby's thyroid etc.

What symptoms make you think he may have a thyroid problem?

hugs

Oh your poor OH! It must be really hard for the men dealing with this. My DH was pretty shocked at first, but he's come to terms with it really well now.

I read that thyroid problems can cause the zero sperm count too!

Just keep reassuring your OH that it doesn't mean you can't have children. It just makes it a bit harder but the kids you have will be extra special!!!

Check out this link, it lists people that have had success with ivf, how many attempts it took & what was wrong. There are a few couples on this with azoospermia (who have got pregnant) & I thought it was very positive. If you show your OH he might feel better thinking he's not alone.
