Hi girls,
Sorry to introduce myself here in such a frantic way. Hubby just did his SA for the FS, and I went in the room with him for "support". So sorry for TMI but here's what happened. So he did he sample in he cup, then there is the "after stuff" if you know what I'm saying that leaked out a few seconds later and got on his hand. So being a girl and having been TTC for a long time I never see this end of things so I have no clue what percentage of the sample got on his hand...we didn't know what to do and made a probably bad move as he didn't want to wipe it off his skin into the cup and maybe ruin the sample. So...how bad is this. Should I assume the SA will be poor now and ask for a redo, or is this ok? I had a total meltdown in a grocery store just now hysterically sobbing. The first trip to the FS was not easy on the heart. Help :(

They use only a ml or two randomly sucked up from the whole sample to do the analysis so it shouldn't affect the result.

Was it any of the actual fluid, or was it just the 'stuff' after he came? If it's just the after stuff, i wouldn't worry about it at all. It's such a minute amount that it won't affect anything.

It was after he came, then a few seconds later some white thick stuff came out after and stuck on his hand and we didn't know what to so with it. The main omg I'm so sorry but "shot" of liquid went in the cup this was a few seconds later the thick stuff got on his hand. I'm mortified to even ask about this. Thanks girls.

You did exactly the right thing - the first part of the ejaculate is the most concentrated and the part you need to collect. They also say never to collect any spilt semen so what you did was perfectly fine and wont affect his results.

Ok thanks so much for the responses, you all made me feel so much better!!

You are fine, no need to panic! The first part of the sample is the most important part with the most sperm. The very end stuff is ok if it misses the cup (if it's just a tiny bit) and no, you don't need to scoop it into the cup, just tell the staff so they can make a note of it, not a big deal. I work in a lab, so I know a little about this sort of thing.

So just wanted to update in case anyone else comes across the same problem and needs some reassurance. DHs SA was great even with not all of the sample getting in the cup.
