I had a m/c 12th June and this morning got an appointment through for a scan of my pelvis, i haven't requested one and wondered if this is normal?

Have any of you had this after m/c? What are they scanning for?

I didn't have a scan after my mc, but am in a different part of the world as you, so not sure if it is "normal". I would assume they are doing this to ensure all the POC (products of conception) have been passed. Can you ring whoever booked you in for the scan and just ask these questions you have before the scan? That's all the advice I have, sorry I can't be more help!
I'm sorry to hear of your loss. :hugs:

I had a D&C on the 19th(I think) But I also had a scan at my two week follow up. It is just to make sure that everything is cleared, my doc also did a pelvic exam to make sure that all is well. It is 'normal' so don't stress. Hope that everything comes back perfectly. :hugs:

I had a scan 22nd June to check that everything had passed. Think i will call them up and ask what it is they are scanning for.

I just get all stressed out thinking this will never end.

Hi there,

Sorry for your loss hun
I had a scan, just to check that everything has come away. They will also probably do another pregnancy test just to check that your hormone levels are back to normal.

hey cherylanne......

i'm so sorry to hear about your mc....i know that it is a heartbreaking time.....

my mc started one week before my 12week scan....when i started bleeding (sorry if TMI) i ended up in A&E....they brought my scan forward.......that just confirmed the worst though.....

i've not had a scan since then, though i'm off to the docs next week to see where i go from here....

luv & hugs to you though....take care

:hugs:

I would have been 13 weeks now, i'll have to call them just incase they haven't updated my records or something and they think i'm coming for my first scan, i do not want to turn up and be told that!!!

the nhs always do a follow up to check its all come away because if it hasnt you can get a nasty infection.

Yep - I agree with Tracie... they are just checking there are no bits of placenta still attached to your womb to make sure you don't get an infection.

Its nothing to worry about hun xx

Thank you for your replys. It just seems never endng at the moment. At least i know it's noting to worry about.

Thank you

Sorry to hear about your loss. Don't worry - A follow up scan is a good idea. I didn't get one and I wish I had.

My mc was at 12-13 wks when they realised there was no heart beat on scan. I waited a while to see if things happened by itself, but it didn't so I had medical management. My bleeding carried on for a few weeks, but they had told me it could last 6 weeks, so I didn't think anything of it.

Then the bleeding got really heavy and I passed 'tissue'. I had to go in to hospital and a scan revealed 'products of conception' still left behind. So then I had to have a d&c (which was about 6-7 weeks after finding out I had mc'd!).

So basically, what I am trying to (rather long-windedly) say, is that I wish they did routine follow up scans here!!!

Good luck

Hi thanks for all your replies, i went for scan yesterday.

The reason for scan was that they thought i had a cyst on my left ovary but needed to rescan to check it. Turns out i don't which i am really happy about. The lady who scanned me checked both overy and uterus and said everything looks healthy and no problems:cloud9:

It actually feels good to have been scanned and know that everything is in good working order, i had fears that there was something wrong with me and that is why i had the m/c. I know that sounds silly, but you just think why me? is there something wrong with me?

 to you all :hugs:

I thought that to start with....what did I do? What's wrong with me? etc

But as I read more about miscarriages, it really does seem that the commonest reason is that the body realises there is a genetic problem and doesn't carry on the baby's development.

And if I am really honest, I don't think that's a bad thing. It's just a sad thing.

I had a cyst on my ovary after my miscarriage which they spotted when they found the retained products. I had another scan after to check that 2 months later and it had gone. SO the body sorts itself out quite well if just left alone sometimes!

I am glad your scan was ok and good luck for your next BFP...
