Hi ladies, I had a natural childbirth and it was mostly uncomplicated, except at the end my placenta became detached and stuck in my uterus my doctor literally had to reach up inside of me while I was still dilated and remove it with her hand. I already had a squeamishness about getting pap smears with a speculum BEFORE childbirth but my perineum is still sore and it's already been a few days over a month since my son was born so I am terrified about going and having a speculum stuck up in me in just 2 weeks times. It's important that I do get checked out just to make sure that nothing got stuck inside me, etc. but I'm just still sore and scared.

How was your six week check up? Did it hurt?

I'm dreading my 6 week check-up too --- I always do lol.

It's never as bad as I think it'll be, but every time thus far it has caused me some pain and discomfort - thankfully it doesn't last very long... but still. I just don't want anything up or near there right now. It usually takes me a couple of months before I'm okay with the idea of that lol.

We survived childbirth tho, and it really is cake compared to all of that.

I had a csection, so my experience might be a little different than for a vaginal delivery momma, but to me it was pretty much just like a yearly visit...she palpated my abdomen (which was still a little tender), checked my incision (finally all healed..yay!) and did a pap smear and manual check (more palpating my abdomen, just lower to make sure my uterus was back to normal size) and asked about bleeding, which had ended about three days before my check..and then gave me my depo provera shot, asked me how i was feeling (i have some PND/PNA and am on Lexapro) and sent me on my way with an appointment for 12 weeks to get shot up again...if you are having soreness, definitely let your ob know, im sure they can try to be gentle with you when they check..it wasnt so much that it hurt, just uncomfortable, and pressure, lots of pressure... :hugs:

My 6 week check didn't involve any vaginal examination. Is it because of the retained placenta cause I don't think it's standard otherwise. X

I had a six week check up with my GP and another appointment with consultant gynecologist as I had a fourth degree tear. The GP appointment was just standard questions about how you are doing, hows your mood, any issues you have and a BP check

Even when I went for the consultant appointment she only used one finger and lots of lube to check. She did it at the back too (sorry tmi) and it wasn't sore at all. I was a nervous wreck thinking I would be in agony but it didn't hurt one bit, it wasn't even uncomfortable. That was with 75 stitches :-/ xxx

Oh, yay! I was just assuming I'd have a check with a speculum but your responses are really encouraging! Maybe I'm not going to need one! I hope just with palpating my abdomen they can get all the information they need and not need to use a speculum. I cannot even imagine a pap smear right now... I was feeling a lot better but then I had some straining with BMs this week that made my perineum sore again like it was a few weeks ago, so just the thought of ANYTHING going near there is terrifying. I haven't even touched down there even though I'm curious to see if everything went back together. Too scared lol
