Scheduled C-Section

With my first (back in 2009), I had a scheduled c-section because she was breech. She was 8lb, 9oz, and born on her due date at exactly 40 weeks. For this baby, we're going to schedule another c-section. My doctor's office is very pro VBAC, but my doctor doesn't think I'm the best candidate for a VBAC. With that said, my doctor told me if I go into labor before my c-section, and I seem to be progressing well, they will let me try for a vbac instead of rushing me into an emergency c-section. My next appointment in two weeks, Aug 6, I'll be 25 weeks. We are going to schedule my c-section then.

I was wondering if anyone has been able to schedule their c-section on their actual due date, or if their doctor wanted them to schedule it sooner. With my last I never dilated, dropped, or ANYTHING, so maybe I won't have a problem making it to 40 weeks? I'm curious how everyone else handled scheduling repeat c-sections.

Thanks!

i had to have one with DD due to me not progressing, so my doctor told me a VBAC wasn't going to be good. I asked him at my appointment on the 9th when he would tentatively set the date for and he told me a week ahead is when he likes for them to happen. So our little one went from being set to come into the world around November 18th to November 12th :)

Mine is scheduled for 39+2. With DS1 it was 39+1.

Mine were scheduled for 39 weeks because the hospital won't do it sooner, and on whatever day of the week my Dr is doing c-sections. So one of mine was three days early and one was five.

With DS I had low amniotic fluid and was checked twice a week. Once it got too low had c-section at 37+4 to prevent cord problems. DD no complications so 39 weeks.

My due date is November 18! I'm hoping she'll schedule it the 16 at the earliest... But we'll see!

We schedule ours at 41 weeks. I bake 'em long. I read somewhere one time that full term used to actually be 41 weeks but doctors pushed it back to 40 weeks to make it a round number. Anyways, I can't find that info anymore to prove that so it may be hearsay. However, as long as things seem to be ok at the end, then your baby benefits from the extra time in there. We always have 8's and 9's on the apgar scale and no jaundice.

Some doctors will try to intimidate you but if you do your research and print it out, a lot of them will back down. It is your baby.

Thank you for sharing! I know for some it is medically safer to take them early than to risk labor, but I don't think I fall in that category. Since I never dilated, dropped or ANYTHING with my first, I'm hoping my doctor will be okay with my actual due date. I understand scheduling might make it earlier or later in the week, but it scares me to think of doing it much earlier!

You're welcome :) I hope they cooperate without you having to do much convincing.

mine was done for 39 weeks
the plan this time is the same at the moment, but my consultant is not confident that i'll make it to that, my 20 week scan showed that baby had already started measuring behind, most of him is on track or a few days behind but his legs are 2 weeks behind.

I don't know why I'm stressing about it so much! I know just because we schedule it a day doesn't give me certainty (these babies have a mind of their own!!), but it's really making me anxious. Hormones, I guess!

Just out of curiosity why were you told you aren't a good candidate for vbac? My first was breech. With him we tried to turn him at 39+1 and he didn't go so we did a cs that afternoon. If I were to do a repeat (this is baby #3 going for a vba2c) they would prob do it around 39wks bc they want to get you in there before labor usually if you shouldn't have a vbac. Otherwise if going into labor doesn't matter and you are going for a vbac they say 42wks.

I'm actually very pro-VBAC, and my doctor is being supportive. Her concern is how small my pelvis is and my lack of progression with my first. For that reason, she doesn't want me to go past my due date. She said if I go into labor on my own and seem to be progressing fine, they will let me go ahead with it. As soon as they cut me open, my daughter was saying "hello" to the world with meconium, so she was definitely ready. I wasn't even the slightest bit dilated or anything! She never dropped, and my body was just going to keep on being pregnant. We found out the week before her due date she was breech.

I'm pretty sure my doctor is going to let me schedule the c-section for my due date, but I'm concerned she's going to say "let's just schedule it for 39 weeks just in case". I definitely don't think they will do it a week later, because she doesn't feel confident I'll have a successful labor. We are going to schedule it at my check-up next Thursday.

Good luck with your VBA2C!

Not sure if you're in the US or the UK but in the UK they seem to take it closer to the wire than the US. My first C section was on the Monday as I was due on the Thursday. Even up to that day my baby was sitting really high up and I think if I was going naturally I would have done massively over.

With this one (I'm 4 months now), it's exactly the same. I'm due on a Thursday but its scheduled for the Monday (his operating day). I nearly went with another consultant for my first and he would have done it the thursday before (so 7 days early) as that was his operating day at the hosptial. If I went into labour early then you move into one of the hospitals "spare" slots for delivery.
