Hello everyone. My husband and I have TTC for over 2 years. Had one miscarriage on week 4 after 1 year. Otherwise, no success. We wasted our time with an incompetent ob/guy and only recently changed to a fertility specialist. He found that I have MTHFR, and my husband's SA showed slightly low mobility a year ago. So far no doctors think that those two findings are significant enough for infertility. At this point, it is unexplained infertility.
It never occurred to me that my supposed O dates could be wrong all alone. My first treatment w/ this fertility doctor was femara + IUI. They wanted me to use the Clear Blue smiley face to test for ovulation. I followed their instruction, plus using my regular Clear Blue monitor. Both showed me a surge/peak on the same day, so the fertility team planned accordinly. I went in the day after the surge as they told me to. Guess what. The ultrasound before IUI showed that I already ovulated, probably at least 2 days ago judging by the look of follicles. The IUI was cancelled. I was so bumped. Now waiting for a new cycle to start over. Funny thing is, I actually felt the ovulation symptoms before I had a surge, and I was symptom-free on the day to the clinic.
How could I have ovulated BEFORE the tests showed a surge? If only one test did, I could argue that the test might be bad. But both tests, different devices, showed the same result. Then I looked at my BBT charts, which I have been keeping for 10 cycles.
I can not say that I am good at interpreting BBT charts, but it seems that I often had the post-ovulation drop BEFORE my test showed a peak/surge! Sometimes a week before! It also makes sense to me why I have been having different length of luteal phase starting from the surge/peak days of tests. If counting from the BBT O day, the luteal phase looks more consistant although long. Of course I would like a doctor to look at the charts for me, but so far no doctors want to and one even told me that it was a waste of time. Another doctor told me that OPKs are more reliable than the temperature because the tests is based on the actual hormone and the temperature can be influced by so many factors.
I believed in the last opinion for so long until the ultrosound this cycle proved it wrong! Now thinking back, that pregnancy/miscarriage was conceived very early in that cycle, before I had a surge/peak from the test. So early that we did not think that it was possible. I can't help questioning how many actual ovulation windows we have missed because we trusted the test results. How can it be possible? Did this ever happen to any of you? Any explaination? How can I know my fertile window if I can't trust the tests and BBT only gives a hindsight? (You probably know that BBT only tells you when you have ovulated.) I would certainly like to discuss with a doctor, but as mentioned, I can't find one doctor who is willing to talk about this. Your opinion will be highly appreciated!
