Second opinion scan shows no fibia and bones missing in foot :(

Well we had our 20 week scan yesterday and was sent for a second opinion today. Turns out our baby boy has no fibia in lower left leg as well as a smaller bent tibia bone and small foot with missing bones.

We have been refered to a neuroskelatal specialist but have to wait two weeks to find out if this is isolated or part of a rare genetic disorder.

Can anyone shed any light on this or know of Nything similar happening.

Were praying this is isolated and just his lower leg will be deformed.

GOSH Are ringing us with an appointment to discuss what to do with the leg if this is the case!

All other measurements are normal and baby looks healthy.

I'm sorry I don't have any advice but hopefully someone else can shed some light. I hope it's just isolated to the leg for your little boy, it's great he's been well taken care of and seeing a specialist. Im sure there are lots of things that they can do to help. Wishing you lots positive thoughts, ladies in here are fantastic x

I don't have any advice but I will say that I once had a swimming instructor with a similar situation in one arm, missing the outer forearm bone and his pinky and ring finger. He was totally healthy (obviously, being a swim instructor and all!). It may be a bit harder missing bones in the leg, but it sounds like you are being referred to the specialists so that is great.

Upon doing our own research we think it may be something called fibular hemimelia. If this is the case it will most likely mean a prosthetic limb for him but he will otherwise be healthy. Fingers crossed for this outcome! Xx

hmmm how to put this the right way.......
the nice thing for the baby if he is born with part of the leg missing for him it will be normal so he won't think of it in the same way you as a person with two "normal" legs will. For him it will be natural, and just the way its always been. He will probably be a stronger person because of it. Hope that sounds right.
