Second Section , First Spinal Tap.

Hey ,

As the title says I'm having my second section , next Thursday am , it is elective/consultant recommended . My first was an emcs and I had a general anaesthetic so I missed everything that happens . . . I am also really nervous about the spinal , I'm not squeamish or scared of needles , just the being numbed , Hearing all the surgical noises , then lying there whilst being stitched up. . . Plus hearing all the stories of people feeling pain , very sick , nauseous , chronic headaches , backaches after , or what if my spine gets damaged

I had a general for my first and a spinal for my second. I found it a strange but not horrible experience. It is a really odd sensation not being able to feel half your body but I didn't have any pain. They have to tell you all the possible risks just in case but the chances of it happening are relatively small
For me, the benefit of actually being awake to see my baby and having DH there with me outweighed the negatives.

I've never had a spinal, but had an epi for my EMCS. It is strange not feeling anything, but once everything starts I kind of forgot about that part and was more focused on hearing DS's 1st cry. I did start to feel sick for a min, but I told them right away and they gave me something in the IV to stop it, worked right away and I never got sick. I never felt and pain at all, there was alot of pressure while they pulled LO out. I tryed to talk to OH and the nurse who was by my head so I wouldn't notice the sounds and smells as much. After I had no headache or any lasting effects. Just the shakes for a bit, but thats normal after any surgery.

I had a spinal, and they put diamorphine in it to chill me out as i was having a nervous breakdown (long hideous labour, emcs). I have nothing put good yhings to say about the spinal. From the minute it was done, and it was painless, i was able to enjoy my experience. No doubt the drugs contributed, but i would like to reassure you that it wasnt unpleasant xx

Yes, I would give anything to have a VBAC, but can't. DS was back to back and got very stuck. I pushed for 3hrs but he just wouldn't come out that way So they called the EMCS. He was so stuck that even in the surgery they couldn't get him out. It finally got to the point that they had to forcefully pull him out and that ripped my uterus up both sides. So now the risk of uterus rupture is way to high to try for a VBAC. They have booked my CS at 37.5 weeks because they don't want me to go into labour on my own

Oh my goodness , that's awful . I hope you have a nice elcs experience this time round. Are you making this lo your last ? I am definitely stopping
