Hi was just wondering if anyone in this section could help me and OH have been TTC now for 20 months we have had 2m/c's. Recently had hormone tests they came back fine but doctor thinks everything is fine with me but is sending me for a scan to reassure me. Am i eligible for any more serious testing? And if my OH was to have semen testing do they do this at the doctors or would he have to be referred to the hospital?
The only reason for me asking is because hes starting a new job in Denmark in april so time isnt on our side and i would really like some answers before then.

I'm in the US but no, you shouldn't have to go to the hospital at ALL for a general semen analysis. In fact, my husband does his "sample" at home then brings it to the fertility clinic.

Call your doctor and ask them where your husband can get his Sperm Analysis done. He must either provide his sample there by masterbation or do his sample at home by masterbation. Do not use any lubricants-- they can affect the analysis negatively. Bring the sample to the doctor within 30 minutes. They administer the analysis there and you should have your results that day. (we get out results within the hour of bringing it to the clinic).
YOUR first tests should include: ultrasound, day 21 bloodwork to test for ovulation,a nd HSG. After that, to my knowledge the only other thing they can do is test egg quality.
Good Luck!!!

Thanks so much for the reply i am going to get onto my doctor as this is just ridiculous the way things are going

Yeah hun you need to get on to your doctors straight away! I had my hormones checked and everything was fine. My doctor said my OH needs to go to his doctors to do a sperm sample but in the mean time he would refer me to a fertility specialist - this was on the 2nd of Feb he told me this. I called the doctors office on Friday (I think) and was told I hadn't even been referred!!! :growlmad:

Make sure you are on the doctors backs because if they don't think you are serious they wont be in a rush to help you!! Good luck I hope your doctor isnt an arse like mine x

Thanks for the reply noodle. How careless can some doctors be cant believe he said he would referr you & then completley forget about it!
Ive already been to the doctors but dismissed everything i said. He said it was normal to be trying this long and that ive been pregnant twice before so concieving isnt an issue with me (how does he know that for sure) Now tht i know my options im going bk. Do you know if a nurse can deal with this sort of thing or does it have to be the doctor?
Thanks

I know I was fuming!! I'm sorry but TTC for 20 months IS NOT NORMAL....the average a healthy couple should TTC before seeking medical help is 12 months or 6 months if you are over 30 (I think) or have already been diagnosed with fertility issues....and I'm sorry but you have had two miscarriages which I am really sorry to hear...so that alone shows obvious reason for concern. Yeah ok you conceived but there could be a health reason as to why those two LO's didn't make it and its your doctors job to check you over and make sure everything is ok, not just assume!

I don't like the sound of your doctor, I would probably change doctors but if that is not an option for you I would keep going back until he/she eventually has to do something. I think it has to be the doctor that referrs you to the fertility specialist but I could be wrong. I know my practice only allow the doctor too. I spoke to my nurse about it (she's lovely and really helpful) and she said I needed to mention it to my GP

Good luck hun I hope everything works out and loads of baby :dust: for that :bfp: xxx:hugs:

Does your OH go with you when you go to the docs about fertility stuff? If he doesn't then i'd ask him to go with you, and see the GP about gettin him to do a fertility sample, he should just be given a pot to take back home then maybe leave it 2 -3 days of abstinace and then take it upto the nearest hopsital, and then you should get his results back 1-2 weeks after he's handed it in. then hopfully depending on his results you should then be referred to a specialist. i've read the other posts about your GP and i would try and see a diffrent GP.

My hubbie just had his SA. The doctor referred him and he had to make an appointment at the hospital. He could do the sample either at home (providing he could get to the lab within an hour) or at the hospital.

Let me know if you get anywhere with your doc, I am in the same situation. I have had the bloods done (CD3 all normal, progesterone low) but want to be referred for further tests.

Hi thanks for all gettin in touch aboutmy post! I thought it wasnt normal think my GP has counted TTC from my 2nd m/c. which is totally wrong. I really am pissed off with it now.. sorry for the language!....I really want to do something about it but my OH after 2 years of not being in work for medical reasons hes been offered a job in Denmark and will only been home every 3 months so part of me thinks is there any point in pushing my GP as my OH will be gone in 2 weeks(hopeing & praying ive caught a sticky bean this month) but really unsure of what to do.

Hi, hope you don't mind me posting. I just wanted to say that TTC for 20 months CAN be normal - or so I'm told! Myself and DH have been TTC for almost two years and we started the ball rolling with tests etc after 12 months. We've had SA, had bloods to check I'm ovulating, had HSG and swabs etc. APPARENTLY everything is normal and because of this we have been told to keep on trying. I have been prescribed clomid just to try it but thats all I can be given until we've been TTC for 3 years. I even spoke to a private fertility clinic who told me that it is considered acceptable to be TTC for up to 3 years. Apparently a couple with no problems CAN take this long to conceive, although they are obviously in the minority as most couples would conceive much sooner. I have to admit I have my doubts - I ask myself how we can not conceive if everything is ok, but I guess we're just the unlucky ones who take ages!!

Anyway, just wanted to let you know that you might not have any significant problems, but obviously its best to get checked. Get on the doctors backs and as the others said keep pushing as otherwise you're likely to get fobbed off!!

Good luck. xx
