I have had GD now for nearly 4 weeks, I've tested diff foods to see wot reacts with me etc....anyway tonight I have had some chinese food, my sugar levels before hand were 5.5 and 1hr 15 mins later it was 3.9...

Can someone please explain how this could be???

Chinese can be healthy, its one of the few things takeaway wise i can have on WW that is only a few points.

What did you have.

I had seaweed, bbq ribs, salt and pepper chicken wings, curry and beef mushroom, fried rice and chips..the family ordered a banquet so i ad a little of each!

The chips and rice would have sent ur sugars right up but if levels lowered then your portion sizes must have been quite small.

How were your sugars this morning?

Because you're lucky?! I have GD and couldn't even contemplate eating a slice of bread or tiny portion of pasta, let alone a Chinese! :haha:

Most people on the GD thread seem to think it's down to hormones and I'm inclined to agree. Also, your body has to work harder to digest protein, so I think if you eat lots of protein with a meal it slows the uptake of carbs into your body/bloodstream so you're unlikely to react as badly to it.

Completely agree with everything you just said.

There are a number of things that can affect sugars - firstly check that you are testing correctly - that you used enough blood on the stick as this can lower sugar levels incorrectly. Next it could just be your hormones or activity you had done earlier on during the day. Also remember that you are now 33 weeks pregnant and you can get drops in sugars due to baby's rapid growth and also placental issues (any placenta problem should be checked by ultrasound) You should not have a lowered sugar level from eating something - eating will always raise your sugar levels even if only by a small amount so it has nothing to do with what you ate. Finally your own body can produce insulin still and perhaps it produced more than usual - are you on any medication - if not then it most probably has to do with the baby and the pregnancy rather than any other factor.
