This is going to be a compound post, but I'm in desperate need of answers/opinions/experiences. I have not had an actual full length period since the beginning of the year, but I did have a slight bleed for a couple of days during the summer. I get ewcm off and on, with *almost* positive opks, but it is rare.

These last couple of months though, I have to have sex FIRST to stimulate ovulation. Hubby and I bd, and then 8 to 10 hours later or so, I'll start getting large amounts of ewcm and pinching in my ovaries, and what feels like twinges in my cervix. If we don't bd, I get nothing. I have all of the ovulation symptoms for a couple of days afterwards too (tender breasts, fatigue, slight cramps, soft high cervix, etc.). How backwards is that?!

How likely is it that I'm actually releasing an egg when this happens? Do I treat it like it's really ovulation?

I'm not currently temping because my schedule is so erratic, and we are trying to take it easy.

I have never heard of BD triggering Ov. I don't think thats possible. I do know that you can Ov with barely even having a period. This month I had my period for one day and a half, and I thought because of all the stress I had been under and me being upset that my fiance was gone out of the country visiting family, that I had stressed myself out and threw my cycle off. Well a week later lots of cm followed by ewcm a few days later. Too bad my fiance was out of town. :(

I agree with LoriJ- never heard of bd triggering O. Wish it was that easy...

Ya i dont think that is correct but having a orgasm while having sex increases chances!

It sounds weird to me too, but I don't believe I am lucky enough to have this three times in a row. There has to be some kind of relation between the sex and then ovulating that same day. I'm not using any form of testing besides the occasional opk since I haven't had a period for so long. I have no idea where I should be in my cycle, so I just assume these instances are ovulation. But to get the timing that perfect on accident---for three consecutive months? Nah...there's got to be more to it.

Are you sure it just isn't left over semen coming out. It takes two days for all the left overs lol sorry tmi! To come out of me. It's there every time I wipe and it looks exactly like EWCM. But I really don't know how it all works it's so confusing lol

Hey ladies,

I read this post and thought "hmm, wouldn't that be something?". I've heard that semen can trigger labor but never heard anything about triggering ovulation. Well, I Googled it and Wishiwas may be right.

Thank you for finding that information. I was sure there was some link between the two, although I couldn't figure it out myself! It is still very odd. I'm 12 dpo, so maybe I will get to see if it is correct after all :)

I have had that happen too but I never though it was the sex that actually triggered it to happen I always just thought we got lucky and happened to BD hours before the actual LH surge. I have noticed drinking baking soda water can sometimes trigger a surge for me, maybe because I am usually highly acidic.

That's very interesting lisap, how weird our bodies can be!

Well, seen from a scientific standpoint - could be. But this is far from being proven in humans. There is hints from animal studies (like the ones sb cited), but there is no evidence for this from humans.

In the one Llama study mentioned for example, the "ovulation-inducing factor" only induced ovulation in a sub-group of animals - those who do not ovulate spontaneously. We as humans are "spontaneous ovulators", so we ovulate every cycle (well, ideally), no matter if we have sex or not. And in their experiments that factor did not induce ovulation in spontaneous ovulators.

So I don't think we can jump to that kind of conclusion right now. All we can say is that there might be something there, and we don't fully understand.
