Odd question I know, but when you make your LO's bottles, do you shake them or stir them? I was wondering because my son has a lot of gas and we have already changed his formula and have him on the best there is for gassy baby's and he still has gas problems. I was thinking maybe it could be that we shake his bottles. Maybe the bubbles from the shaking is putting more air in his belly. Is this possible? Should I stir the formula in, instead of shaking? Sorry if this seems odd, but it is just a thought. Any advice is welcome.

i used to swirl the bottles round in a circle

but my friend used to stir the powder in with the dr brown bit in the middle

:hugs:

I shook Hannah's bottles but hers were premade and stored in the fridge so had time to settle. After reheating them I swirled them around a bit

I add the powder to all the bottles and then use the scoop to stir :D I also thought that the bubbles in the bottle could have been contributing to her wind :)

shaking the bottles DO contribute to wind!!

We keep a plastic baby spoon in the sterilizer (think it came from a freebie pack i got from HIPP through the post) and stir his milk when we make it and then rinse the spoon out and put it back in the sterilizer!

I either shake from side to side (not up and down) or swirl.

You could always make up the bottle 10mins before you know your LO will want it (if he has predictable feeding times!) and then it gives the milk time to settle

Same here :)

Thanks everyone! I think I am going to go with the swirling or stirring. Maybe his gas will settle some. Also his feeding times are so unperdictable still (every 2-4 hours) so making them up 10 minutes before wouldn't work for me.

I use a formula mixer than put them all in the fridge after so they settle. I shake them after i reheat them but the bubbles are gone like right away

I shake the bottle, but then we make them up straight with boiled water then cool them so they have settled by then

We shake them but then they're put into the fridge so they settle by the time I need to warm them up for feeds.

I shake his bottles. But, he has not had any problems with gas otherwise I would probably do it differently.
