Hello, I'm in my fifth week of this pregnancy. In August last year I had a mmc only discovered at my 12 week scan that turned out to be a partial-molar pregnancy.

This is my second pregnancy ever and last weekend I had some little stabbing pains just down from my belly button and to the right. They went away, but tonight I've been having intermittent sharp shooting pains in the same place but this time on the left. It's been going on for a few hours now and is quite sharp when it happens. Also have some mild cramping.

I had these same pains with the partial molar and obviously that's concerning me. That last doomed pregnancy is the only thing I have to compare to. Are these pains common and ok? I feel like I've resigned myself to bad news.

This board is a little more quiet than others....and over the weekends tends to be even more quiet. However, a simple "bump" comment on your own thread is sufficient for bringing it back to the top of the page so others can see it an comment. People on this site live in various countries, time zones, etc so although you may post it at a normal hour, it quite possibly could be the middle of the night for many others.

Your second comment you posted was sarcastically rude and you're unlikely to get any positive feedback from people in this group when you lash out before anyone has a chance to respond.

To answer your question, however, pains can be a normal part of pregnancy and they an also sometimes indicate a problem. The only way to know for sure is to speak with your doctor. If there's a genuine concern they'll more than likely schedule a scan (depending on what country you live in and what your insurance coverage is like) to double check for things such as ectopic and molar.

I agree. Sharp pains on the left side can be indicative of an ectopic pregnancy, but they can also be perfectly normal. With my daughter and with this pregnancy so far (currently 15+5 and everything seems to be fine), I've had some sharper pains and strong cramps. Like PP said, there's really no way to know if it's normal or symptomatic of a problem without talking to your doctor. Since you're 5 weeks, a scan should be able to give you some more information (such as rule out an ectopic). Good luck!
