Shortened Cervix -- 2.6cm @ 24 weeks

I had an ultrasound two weeks ago and my cervix was at 3.1. When I asked my doctor to clear me for air travel to the Caribbean for my sister's wedding, he said, "I'm sure you're OK but let's do another ultrasound and fetal fibronectin just to be sure."

Well, in one week, my cervix went down to 2.6cm. My doctor sad I'm 1mm away from pre-term labor and I'm still waiting on the fibronectin result. He put me on modified bed and told me to cancel my vacation. From now on, I will need the cervical length ultrasound once a week and restricted to only going to and from work....no housework, nada.

Can the cervix naturally lengthen on its own?

He didn't prescribe anything but told me to prepare for bedrest and weekly steroid injections. Since it's too late for a cerclage, is there any hope here?

Mine was 2.6 at 20 weeks and I was about to go on vacation, so they checked it again at 22 weeks and it was still that. They checked again at 28 weeks and it was 2.9! They said that it can just naturally lengthen on its own, just like you asked. My doc wasn't worried when I was 2.6, just wanted to monitor it. Went on pelvic rest and was on restricted activity. Now am in the clear. Most important was whether it was funneling or sealed up, and it was not funneling. Do you know if yours is? I hope it grows on its own and that you will be fine! Try not to worry.

Thanks for your reply. Did you fly for your trip? How far was the flight? Did you stay in the country?

I have no clue whether it's funneling. I guess I'll ask when I go to my ultrasound this week.

We drove for some of it and then I flew for the last stretch. Stayed in the country. I was kind of nervous having to fly and walk around the airports, but it went ok. Flights were about 2 and half hours and I had two each way. I moved a lot and did leg exercises. I then elevated my feet whenever I could, even in the middle of the airport!
