Hello ladies

I'm looking for some advice re clomid. I'm usually a sane level headed kind of person but this ltttc torture is sending me nutty

I've just had a lap and dye done which revealed i may have one blocked/spasm tube and a tilted womb. I had an appointment with my FS yesterday and he basically said that ivf was the only step for me, its a 2 year waiting list on the NHS for the Glasgow Royal, but since i was first referred a year ago i only have another year to wait....i suppose after 12 years ttc it isnt that much longer to wait. But my question is i asked the doc if i could try clomid...but he said no since its clear i ovulate fine and said it could cause more problems....i really dont believe this, surely its worth trying for a couple of months. I just feel like they really dont look into the causes of infertility but rather they just stick you on a waiting list for ivf...fair enough but surely as doctors they should be curious to get to the problem....heyho! Anyways i'm soooo tempted to buy clomid online and see what happens, i'd be careful of course. Has anyone done this and can you recommend any UK sites to but it from? Any advice appreciated x

I wouldn't get it. Depending on what you would be taking it for would depend on what days you would take it. A lot of women are on CD2-6 but some are CD3-7, 4-8, 5-9. I am on CD1-5 but I don't now of anyone else on those dates. Also, you wouldn't know what dosage to take. It's okay saying you would start with 50mg but if that doesn't work would you go up? Where would you stop? (150mg is the most my FS would prescribe anyone, I thought even though 150mg didn't work in getting me pregnant but I did ovulate, why not try 200mg. Never ovulated.)

Then there are the awful side effects. I had Over Hyper Stimulation Syndrome on my first cycle of 100mg and I had to monitored every couple of days because of it.

Here is the key question. How will you know if it's working? Every patient at my clinic gets monitored every cycle with scans/blood work. Most hospitals do some form of monitoring to check if it's working.

I strongly advise you don't take it and listen to what your doctor is saying.

I understand the want for a child is strong, I couldn't imagine going for that long but I wouldn't take medication if you have been told not too.

Good luck. X

Ive taken clomid and was ok but so many girls over stimulate and produce a lot of eggs and cysts-i wouldnt recommend self prescribing as it can be very dangerous for your health... I think it is important to be monitored by your fs to see how your body responds. I would speak to your fs or doctor x

I agree with everything Princess Lou says.

Also, I expect the reason they won't give you Clomid is because of the blocked/spasmed tube. If you were only to ovulate from that side, it won't work because the sperm cannot get the the egg if there is a blockage.

This is probably also why they have referred you straight for IVF

I know, most of the time, it feels like the FS are always trying to fob us off, but they really do know what they are doing and talking about. I know sometimes it's hard to accept what they are saying.

Please don't self prescribe. Also if there were to be any problems and the FS/Clinic were to find out you self prescribed, would that affect your chances of IVF. You have to be ABSOLUTELY compliant with what they say, and this could look like you are not being very compliant.

Good Luck hun

Hi

Thank you ladies for you reply. I understand the health issues and of course being monitored using clomid would be ideal, but i'm at the end of the road here, i just feel i need to try it (think i'd start on 50mg, and go no higher than the 100mg). Then if nothing after say 4 months, i would accept it. Hoping someone can recommend a UK website for me to order from.

whilst i would never recommend buying clomid online (you don't know what you're actually getting !) i'm surprised they haven't agreed to let you try it - where i am they're more than happy to prescribe it even if you already ovulate and they give you a few months worth to go away with and don't bother with monitoring you ! and the fact that it was only one tube affected..

If you ovulate fine by yourself, there's really no need for clomid. It can thin your lining and make it too thin for implantation so it's not a wonder drug. OHSS is not to be underestimated either. I know a lot of people think overstimulation just means more eggs and maybe a multiple birth but it's a really serious condition that can be fatal.

How about trying natural supplements like soy etc rather than buying what you hope is clomid online?

please don't buy any clomid online, only god knows what's in those meds!!
I ovulated on my own but doctor prescribed clomid for me a year ago to increase our chances. It caused ohss, had too many little eggies instead of nice mature ones. We immediately stopped the treatment. If this happens to you (and there is no way to know if you don't have scans) and you continue to take it for 4 months, you may well end up with nasty cysts.

Lets not forget it BLOODY hurts.

PLEASE do not buy it, like BearsMummy said, you have to everything EXACTLY how the FS tells you and I know someone who did take Clomid of their own back and were refused NHS treatment and couldn't afford to go private. (It's part of their policy so for people who say they can't do that, yes they can.)

Oh and another thing that I just thought of - having prescription only medication, that you don't have a prescription for is illegal and you can be prosecuted for it.

Hi everyone :)

Thank you all for the replies and advice. Of course i am well aware of the dangers of taking unprescribed medication and not to mention the fact its illegal. However, i'm afraid once my mind is made up its made up....i've waited too long now, i have nothing else to lose and should things go wrong then i only have myself to blame...but i just need to try this, before i give up completely. I ordered some pills yesterday, 30 x 25mg's of clomid, so i will be careful but i'm also excited to see the outcome. Sorry if this sounds awful but its just something i've decided to do. I wish you all the best x

Thanks
Sam

Well I hope it works out for you. Well actually no, I hope you get a BFP before you get a chance to take them because it's so risky. I won't repeat what's been said before but just because you've bought them, doesn't mean you have to take them. Think long and hard first. Does your OH know what you've done?

Im sending you a PM with info

but you dont have to take Clomid, there are other options that will help without side effects like Clomid

and buying online at a reliable place is OK. Not every online place is some scam or laced drug operation, lol.
