Showers! (And not the baby kind)

So...um, aye. It doesn't actually apply to showers on a sole basis, but anything water-based.

I can't seem to be warm in the water. I'm 11 weeks

The OH & I go swimming once a week just as something for us to do that gets us out of our respective parents' houses. But I can't seem to stay in the water for longer than half an hour/45 minutes without starting to freeze. And that worries me because I've always been a water baby, and was a competitive swimmer in my teens (until I busted my knee in training). Plus Glasgow Gym charges £2.80 a pop for an adult swim, so I'm hardly getting my money's worth, but that's just me being a tight so and so.

But it applies in the shower as well, where I just shiver constantly. I've always taken hot showers, and tried to cool it off for the sake of my core temperature, but because I'm shivering so much, my showers are as warm as they were before, if not warmer. Which, for obvious reasons, is a massive concern.

It's also a concern because I want to put a water birth in my birth plan.

Will this disappear or am I going to suddenly hate water for the next few months?

I've noticed this in swimming pools too! The shower in my flat is fine (so long as OH hasn't mucked around with the temperature settings without me realising), but whenever I've been swimming since getting pregnant the water has always been FREEZING at the local pool unless I'm properly going for it (which is hard cause I'm not the best swimmer, everything I do descends into a doggy paddle), and the showers afterwards are like an icy hell, even though I'm told they're warm.

All I know is that them telling us to take only lukewarm baths and showers is a joke. Any time I take a bath I have to run more hot water bc for some odd reason my butt will feel cold against the tub :/ so I can sort of relate.

You can have warm showers as it won't raise your core temperature like a jacuzzi would! So don't worry about that xx

With regards to OP, are there any hotels around that have swimming pools? I know that it sounds like a daft question but my gym is in a hotel and the pool is always warmer than public pools! X

No hotels near me, no.

Midwife said it's normal, and something about blood circulation protecting the baby. Which makes sense. Kinda like how basic survival instinct supposedly makes you pass out from blood loss (explains the transfusion centre a couple years ago!)

I have hot showers no problem, baby is perfectly fine. Would be different if i was taking a bath though...
Can't say i've been swimming while i've been pregnant ao can't really relate there :)

I haven't really gone swimming (I am in AK though :) ) but I have noticed that I have been a lot colder than normal in the last week or so. All I want to do is bundle up in warm clothes and blankets!!!

Maybe go to a different pool? The one in north woodside is meant to be warmer than others in glasgow. As for showers, you can go as hot as you want...it won't raise your core temperature...and if it does you'll notice and get uncomfortable before it gets even close to dangerous for the baby. Birth pools are heated to 38 degrees I think, so you should be more than fine in them. :)
