I am 16wks and 3 days pregnant with my first and s/he has positioned themself right on my siatic nerve (the nerve right at the bottom of ur back, feels like my 'bum bone') and OMG it hurts, i cant walk or sit down straight etc.. Has anyone had this or know any ways to get bub to move again safely its unbearble? Ive never felt a pain that aches so much..x

Hey honey. I know how you feel. My siatic nerve has been irritated since very early in pregnancy. I normally don't go to any kind of massage, accupuncture or chiropractor but I was desperate. I made an appt with a chiropractor and he did an adjustment and alignment as he said my pelvis was rotated. I will tell you the next day I was pretty sore but after that it did seem to help. He said I would need to go back about every 2 months. I am in pain again now and need to make an appt. Mine really gets painful late in the day and at night. Ouch. Hope it gets better for you soon.

Awh thanks hun, theres a place just down my road that does massages etc ill go in and have a chat with them =)..x

I had awful sciatic nerve pain down one side of my bum and hip, and into the back of my leg with all 3 of my babies. I am afraid I have already felt twinges of it with this one, too.
In my past pregnancies, my doc told me to take Motrin, but that was many years ago and not sure if they still consider that safe. Even then, I wasn't allowed to take it in the last 6 weeks of pregnancy. I found sleeping on my side with a pillow b/t my knees to align my back was slight relief, but really I just suffered...and worried I'd wind up in a wheelchair by 9 months!

I was so relieved to get those babies out and have that pain end! It does give you a better empathy for chronic back pain sufferers.

Hi,

I had this with my first and this pregnancy too!! Mine starts very early on as well so im glad someone else said that too. Usually 9/10 weeks and goes around week 14. Im hoping it will this time too. Its horrible.

I booked an osteopath apt last time and she did some excercises on me which i will be doing this time too. Heres one thats great. I know its hard but lay on the floor with your legs out straight, get someone to gently pick your legs up and gently pull them (make sure they dont drop them else my god does it hurt) Get them to do it at different heights too. Do this a few times a day, i found it so relieving. Also, to stretch the nerve lay on your back and slowly bring one knee up, hug it and pull it to stretch the nerve.

I hope this helps you all and saves you all £45!!!!

xxx

Hey Bubble, when you get someone to lift your legs up and pull, do they do one leg at a time or both legs at the same time?

I've been suffering with this for a few months now and nothing seems to help.

Oh hun I feel your pain. I too have sciatica that flares up. I go the the chiropractor every 2-3 weeks and it helps me so very much. Ask your OH to massage the area, when hubby does that I get relief. It hurts at first but when the little muscle spasms around the sciatic nerve area calm down I go right to sleep every time.

Hey Fritterfots

Yes, both legas at the same time othewise it puts strain on the other sides muscles. I hope this helps you a bit, it has been great for me both times. When i remember the others i will post them xx

Thanks bubblebubble, I was diagnosed with sciatica yesterday (though I am still not certain it isn't SPD) and I am going to get OH to give that a try tonight!

I hope it helps, it really did for me and atleast you wont have to pay for someone to tell you that. The knees up on works well but its very painful to start with. Good luck, let me know if you need anything else xxx

hi, Iv had this since i was 11 from horse riding and having one leg longer than the other (according to my chiropractor the 2 dont mix), It was really bad for most of the pregnancy, and then at 24 weeks it dissapeared and hasnt come back (yet!)

I found hanging from a door helped, It really let my back hang straight, Obviously i perhaps wouldnt suggest this, but a birthing ball may help... also i found standing rather than sitting helped, but apparently im the only one to feel this way lol
