I know this might sound stupid and I'm sorry for poking in buttt...

do breastfed babies need to be burped?

If they aren't having milk from the bottle at all... please don't attack me for being dumb lol I just really have no clue! :shy:

I just didn't know if you had to burp babies only because they were getting air from the bottle or!!

I always burped at first but I did find that I didn't have to as much as I had with Landon who was bottle fed, and I was able to stop earlier, I only did for maybe a couple months max and after that he got it up on his own just fine if he had to.

Yup.
Especially little piggy ones like mine who get overexcited and don't latch on right away and swallow all sorts of air.
He does burp way more with his bottles, though.

Freddie ALWAYS gives me a good Barney out of the Simpsons style burp, boob or bottle!

i do remember asking the MW's in the hospital how to burp him and being told breastfed babies don't need to be winded?! so i spent the first week with an uncomfortable baby till my mum made me wind him - buuuuuuuurrrrrrrpppppppp!!!! stupid MW!

I only needed to burp a couple of times, i've never had a problem with wind.

Amelie was a really windy baby but I don't burp her anymore as she can get them up herself now :) Remember they suck in air all sorts of ways like by crying or sucking a dummy, not just feeding.

Haha your not dumb hun, i thought this too so i didnt wind ava, and didnt realise why she kepted being sick after her feeds, my mum asked me "do you wind her? and i said no i thought breastfeed babys didnt need it"

now i wind and shes hardly ever sick lol

Hey Hun!! :D

Yeah like the others said, they do get burped but you often find that they either part with it easy or dont get much wind. Of course there are exceptions. Some say they dont get colic but I'm not sure I agree with that one. Hebe definately had a little bout and my sisters best buddy's babies were both colicy.
Generally with a good latch you get a really good vacum and like you said there arent air bubbles in your (.Y.)s so in theory wind should be minimal :D

Glad you asked this, and NOT a silly question at all ;)

I didnt in the beginning, but my LO seems to be a little sick after every feed, so plan to start doing it now - I'm still trying to get used to the 'burping' positions.

x

i needed to burp my daughter, but not very often and perhaps not as hard as i would of needed to if she was bottle fed.

Hannah gets as much wind when she bfs or bottle feeds!

Alice has to be burped a few times during every feed, but she tells me when she needs to. She lets go and wrinkles her nose and her face goes red as if she's trying to get it up herself....too cute! I think most of the air gets in when she's gulping at the start or as she latches on.

My first two children were FF and they needed winding loads, baby number four I decided to BF and at the beginning sat for ages trying to get wind up, could figure out why I couldnt. Talked to the mw about it and she said some BF babies dont need to be winded.

Alfie only needs burped about 10% of the time and he lets me know by arching his back and sort of trying to pull my nipple off :) but he also does this when he is finished lol.

Not a stupid question at all!! Yes they do need winding but in my exerience not as much as when they are bottle fed and they dont take in as much air :D
