I'm just curious to know your experiences of labour second time round?
I'm pregnant with number 2. I had a very straight forward 7 hour labour with my daughter, no complications and quite a positive experience. Don't get me wrong my contractions were agony but the pushing part was very manageable and although I tore it wasn't painful and I healed quickly.
I've been thinking that my second labour could be even shorter and similar experience but I know that might just be wishful thinking so what's your experiences? Much the same type of birth or a lot different? Thanks in advance xxx

MOST labours halve themselves. You should move FAST when you have contractions if your first was only 7 hours!
Mine was 22 hours for 1st baby, 2.5 hours with 2nd. Was a FAR better experience 2nd time round!

Ha, I posted an almost identical question yesterday! Woops!

Scary to know that second labors halve themselves.. I'm so afraid of having the baby by myself lol

Sorry Mrs K I never saw your question yesterday. How long we're you with your first then?

Wow Jessica! 22 hours with your first and only 2.5 with second! Bet you couldn't believe it! Did you make it to the hospital? I dread to think how quick mine will be lol xx

Different.

ds1 was an epidural birth, laying flat on my back, vacuum, etc birth in the hospital.

ds2 was at home, no medications, gave birth standing up.

6 hours of labor... and I kept telling the hubby not to call the midwife yet because I'm sure I'm still far from close to delivering! lol!

my first was 18.5hrs with complications and interventions, my second was 2hrs 17 minutes very straight forward and no interventions. i didn't even push, he just came out. lol 7 minute second stage. :)

Zakk: short but very painful labour, on back with ventouse. Massive episiotomy. Was in a daze and out of control with the pain.

Iris: 1 hour labour, birthing pool, gas and air. A small tear. Was completely in control and lucid between contractions.

Both labours, i had to be induced at nearly 42 weeks cause baby wasn't coming out at all.

First baby was induction 34 hours long with pitocin.

Second baby was 3 days of labor, including an induction with pitocin that took 23 hours.

Both labors were very different.
Painful back labor on first, and the epidural didnt work for that.

Second was ok with epidural, but cervix split apart Pain meds wouldn't touch it.

Interesting but scary post lol. Ladies that had 2 hour labours did u literally go to hospital as soon as contractions started then? Im scared i wont go in on time :S

well I am PRAYING that this labor is wayyyy shorter than my first. I was in labor a total of 26 LONG hours.

I was already in hospital luckily as was meant to be monitored and induced. If my contractions had started like they did whilst I was at home, 100% sure I would have given birth completely unaided in the car! I had so many Braxton hicks in my pregnancy that the rule of if you get '4 minutely contractions lasting a minute then head to hospital' didn't apply to me! I would have ignored my contractions and then when they got painful I would have presumed i was in very early labour (I would have compared the pain to my 1st back labour!) and then the only time I think id have left the house would have given me a 30 minute window in which to get in car, drive and reach hospital. Hospital was 40 mins away. I pushed her out in 2 mins so yup... Would have been car birth!!

Ive been the same this pregnancy xjessicax had a false start the other night!! Get braxton hicks constantly! Hospital is 10-15 mins away so i guess i ll just need to try and judge it best i can when it happens. Last labour was 12 hours in total but i dilated from 1-9 cm in 5 hours x

I'm a bit worried about this too Sweetcheeks. I had 7 hour labour with my daughter and my contractions were only ever 3-4 minutes apart right from the start so this time I'm thinking should I go to hospital as soon as it starts. I'm glad I had a short labour and hope I'm lucky enough to have more of the same but just don't fancy giving birth on my own or in the car lol xx

Wow, you will have to move move move when you think you are in labour then!

My first labour was only 2hrs 35 mins....i live 40 mins minimum away from the hospital!! Im starting to think I should just hang around outside from 37 weeks! lol

I'm really hoping mine is different this time around DD's labor was straight forward, but her birth was a nightmare, and 19 hours of active labor, almost 24 hrs of labor all together

My second was much easier than my first. With no 1, I think I was in active labour (so from around 4cm dilated, I think, whenever they let you stay in hospital anyway) for around 7 hours with nearly an hour of pushing. With no 2, active labour was 2 hours long with only 11 mins of pushing. It hurt just the same with each but 2 hours of pain is a lot easier to bear and the pushing part with no 2 was almost pleasurable - I wouldn't say it was nice but it didn't hurt and it was just a relief!

I had an episiotomy with both and I also tore with both, but I healed quicker and better second time around (or maybe I just knew what to expect more, so it didn't seem as bad).
