Went to the midwife yesturday & got my 28 week pregnancy pack :happydance:. Anyway..

When she was taking my bloods before she did anything she tapped my leg and said 'uncross them missy!' then took my bloods and laughted about me crossing my legs..

I cross them most of the time when I'm sat on the sofa and my feet are swinging or when I'm waiting for the bus and due to the seating being high my feet are dangling off the floor so it's just habbit to cross them..

Now today all day I've crossed my legs. I was sat on the bed with the ironing board at the lowest point and my legs were stretched out and crossed. I think it's all mind over matter but I can't stop doing it now!

Anyone else do it? Or do something that m/w not to becuase it's become/ing a habit?!

They ask you to uncross them when they take blood samples, not sure why. Or did she say there was another reason?

What is a 28 week pregnancy pack btw?

I'm forever crossing mine, and getting told off by everyone for it. Im always moaned at by midwife for it and can't help but do it infront of her even tho I know what's coming. It's hard enough to get comfortable now and crossed legs is the only way I do feel comfortable.

I think it might be something to do with people who cross their legs being more prone to blood clots in the leg and varicose veins? We're also prone to these in pregnancy- so I guess we should be extra careful. :)

Spot on :). Plus if you do it while getting Bp done it can give a false reading.

Blood circulation is reduced due to the pressure on your calf’s she said and when pregnant makes the pressure less and less and give you the dead leg feeling when standing up or cramp.

I know what she means because when I've crossed them for a while and I get up it feels like I've had cramp or tingling. That was before I was pregnant and now.

She also said when sat down no one should cross their legs due to the circulation in general.

I thought everyone got one off their midwife in the UK..

It's like the welcome/congratulations pack ladies get at the beginning of the pregnancy with information about what to do and not etc and what things will happen at different stages of pregnancy. A little like the Bounty Packs but the local NHS Primary Trust puts leaflets together and in the 28 week one it's just got extra information about labour, pain, newborn stuff and what to do in the early days.

I'm a walking hazard then...!
I had a Pulmonary Embolism (PE) blood clot in my lung in Feb '10 due to being in a coma for a week and was on warfarin for 6 months. I had tests a few months after to see if I was prone to them later on but they all came back negative. The clot has gone but when I saw the Obs Consultant at the beginning of the pregnancy she said I'm at high risk of getting a clot due to the existing one being there (dried up within my lung now) and was told I'd needed to inject tinzaparin thoughout my pregnancy everyday. I did kinda take about a months supply then I don't take them anymore. I honestly don't know why and I know all the risks involved for me and Peanut and OH has argued and argued over it and I've cried and beaten myself up about not taking them but just can't force myself to take it..

I didn't get a pack either! Midwife told me not to cross my legs but that's cos baby is back to back at the moment and needs space to turn around! Its so hard not to thou!x

I have never been told to not cross my legs and i always cross them especially when at midwifes as i cross them in the chair ive never been told not to even while getting a bp check, strange

i have never had one word mentioned to me about crossing them or not
other than my mom saying "enjoy it now, because eventually you wont be able to sit like that" as i am always sitting indian style everywhere... even in my desk chair at work

I have my legs crossed constantly! Its a terrible habit which I hate, my nan is always going on about me getting variose veins and I get aches in them but no matter what I do I cant sit with them down :-(

The things we think won't affect us before pregnant or think we'd carry on doing!

e.g. other night i had to get OH to help me out of the bath. My legs just wouldn't work and we've got a narrow bath as it is and when I was weighed yesturday I can see why the sides seemed very tight on my hips!

Looks like the Xbox Kinect is OH christmas present this year just for me to use when peanuts here and shed the extra weight. I'm just lucky so far about the stretch marks. They are only on the inside of my legs and under and outside side of boobs.. (touch wood, i don't get anymore!)

Ive put just under 2stone on which I dont think is too bad... 3rd pregnancy and no stretchmarks, I feel very lucky!! x

I know that crossed legs can really change your BP but I've often had a doctor not notice I've been sat that way till I mentioned it and they had to take BP reading again!

While pregnant my mw never told me not to cross my legs in general although I found it uncomfortable to have my hips misaligned.

Never heard of it! Wow, at least I've gone through 3 pregnancies oblivious to this. I always cross my legs.

I've only been told to uncross them during my blood test, I thought it was weird lol

when i went in for my first scan at 12 weeks i got a major telling off by the mean sonigrapher for crosing my legs. i must of sdone it 5 times nd she kept nudging my legs and givin me evils!! i was nervous so thats why i kept crossing them.
