Just a quick question..... Been bf leo and even tho he nearly 5 wks he still wakes every night every 1 1/2 - 2 hours for a feed. I've been reading and seems I have forceful letdown (milk squirting all shapes and leo gagging and stressing) am trying keep to one boob for all feeds for approx 4 hours ( worth a try I thought read on kellysmom website) as wondered if due to too much foremilk

Anyhow I'm rambling now any advice would be hugely appreciated x x x x

I'd try going back to alternating for a while but TBH he's still very young so I'd say it sounds normal :)

That how Daniel was, so sounds normal to me. :D He was feeding every 2-3 hours through the night until only just recently (completely knackering ) and still gets up for at least one feed during the night.

What colour are his nappies? If it is a hind/foremilk imbalance, then nappies are usually green.

Is he gaining weight well?

My Lo usually wakes every 2-3 hours during the night. Last week he woke every 1 and half to 2 hours!

thanks all, seems like he is normal then! His nappies were yellow and very watery but yellow and soft today since staying on same breast for few feeds yesterday afternoon until now, he was having loads of explosive type windy poos (sharting!) but this also improved today he also seems alot more settled and yes he seems to be gaining weight well

does this squirting thing get better then cos its awful seeing him struggle cos milk too fast

I find one breast spurts more than the other and gets engorged quicker. I get around it by expressing from it every few days in the morning. I can get 5oz in 10mins without even really pumping, just letting it gush and then opening the valve to draw it off. That seems to calm it down for a day or two and in the meantime I'm building a nice milk supply in the freezer :D He gets really stroppy otherwise and hates feeding off that side so tends to bite my nipple instead, grr!

If you have a fast letdown then try expressing some before you start. No easy at 3am though! :dohh:

My son is 14 months and still wakes in the night to nurse.

We really struggled with this overactive letdown for, I would say, the first 6-8 weeks. She had the green pooh, the terrible wind/colic caused by her swallowing air as she was spluttering so much and she was really upset about it all, so was I. I found that letting her feed "downhill" helped. So I would lie down and she would kind of feed on top of me so gravity worked away from her. Also, I would try and feed her before she got really ravenous so she wouldn't get too frustrated and suckle too hard. I think you just have to work through it though. Soon enough she will be getting frustrated cos it's not coming out fast enough! You can also google "overactive letdown".
