My 4 week old loves sleeping on her side. She does sometime sleep on her back but a lot of the time she writhes around like shes really uncomfortable. I think it's trapped wind which is a nightmare to get out of her but if I lie her on her side she sleeps like a dream.

I know the recommendations are for sleeping on their back but she gets much better rest on her side.

I was thinking of looking in to sleep positioned but I typed it in to google and it cones up with loads of articles about how they are dangerous.

Does anyone here use one? Any thoughts are welcome :)

I bought one and never used it, too scared

I wouldn't- the risk is far too high for me.

I just propped my first daughter with blankets. She hated her back. Slept like a champ on her side.

I wouldn't. They are used in neonatal units but they aren't a risk because of the constant monitoring. You wouldn't be able to monitor in the same way

Jesus, of course I'd do it. Our boy has very severe reflux and barely manages any sleep but the only reason he gets even a few catnaps is that his bed is full of wedges, rolled up towel props, even cushions. He is unable to sleep any other way and for him it would be far more dangerous to lie flat on something hard as that would increase the incidence of him choking on his reflux.

Having a baby like Zach makes you realise that sometimes throwing the rule book out of the window is the best way forward

Never used one but I know what you mean about baby writhing around on their back. Have you tried anything like infacol? My ds burps from his boots if I give him some before a feed - it's very easy to wind him & he settles well on his back if he's well winded. I usually only give it once a night & the effect seems to last for a couple of feeds & then I don't give it during the day.

Just worth a thought as an alternative :flower:

I never used one, but then again my DD slept on her tummy from 4 weeks onwards. So I did something even "worse"..... :shhh:

I would say, let your baby sleep the way they want to. If she sleeps better on her side, use rolled up blankets or positioners or whatever you think is best. The most important thing is that babies need sleep to develop well. :)

Thanks everyone. k4th, yes I might give the infacol a go first. I hate seeing her wriggling around in discomfort. As soon as she's on her side, she stops and is peaceful bit if I can solve the issue another way, I'd feel more at ease I think.

May I say Infacol made my DD worse with gas? Just something to think about. Better try gripe water!
