I am currently 20 weeks pregnant and i have read that sleeping on your back can be harmful. The problem is, this is the only position where im comfortable or i wake up on my back. The left side feels like i cant breathe and right side makes me feel like im being suffocated by my boobs(tmi sorry lol). Anywho preggo pillow doesnt help so does anyone have any tips for a comfy night of sleep?

Pillow between knees on side. Sleeping on your back isn't taboo, you just need to watch that nothing goes numb. I have no problems with it but do it awake first for a while before you sleep to ensure nothing is getting restricted in blood flow. I've always preferred my side anyway. I have ginormous boobs (or so it seems to me anyways at now) with at least a G cup and no suffocation yet:haha:

I fall to sleep in my side and wake up on my back everytime. Think the reason they don't recommend sleeping in your back is because baby can sometimes lie on a main vein and restrict blood flow, but if you don't get any numbness then I'm sure u would be ok x

I'm having some trouble sleeping now too, at 24 weeks. I usually sleep on my tummy which isn't possible now, so I'm sleeping on my side. My arms keep going numb because I'm lying on them. I subconsciously roll onto my back and wake up with horrible cramps in my legs. Not fun!

I sleep on my back have done all way to birth with every baby.

Im almost 26weeks and I still sleep on my tummy - and im huge! Sleep however your comfortable as long as you dont wake up numb/get dizzy x

I am having the same issue I always slept on my side before being pregnant but I am waking up every night on my back but it does seem to be my comfy position even with my preggo pillow and I have tried it wedged behind me, inbetween knees etc but if I sleep on my left my hip/pelvis hurts and on my right  I am considering sleeping sitting up slightly  :dohh:

I find it depends on the night, I fall asleep on my left side normally but half way through the night my side starts hurting so move to my right then after a while I wake up to get comfortable and just end up on my back, I try not to but sometimes it's the only comfy position I can get in, when I sleep on my front I end up getting achy feelings in my stomach so try not to do that to much.

Do be careful sleeping on your back or belly, there is a chance you can decrease the oxygen supply to baby. I suggest getting a pregnancy pillow. If you do a search for it, there are several styles. The style I have is like a big U shape, with one end wider than the other. You sleep with your head in the curve, and can use one side to support your back and the other to support your belly, you can even wrap part of it between your legs. This helps me to "fake" sleeping on my back or belly, which are more comfortable than just my side. I get to lean back or forward some without the risk of squishing baby, because I'm still mostly on my side. I got mine for about $60 from wal-mart.
