Mad.....

I thought we had to use cooled water from a boil no more than half an hour, and then add formula, right?

SMA Staydown though, says you need to refridgeratee the water first?

Anyone know why????!!!!!

The Instructions are:
Preparing the feed

Failure to follow instructions on preparation and storage may make your baby ill.

SMA Staydown needs to be madeup with chilled water that has been previously boiled

1. Wash hands well. Sterilise all utensils according to manufacturers' instructions.
2. Boil kettle filled with fresh tap water. Allow boiled water to cool before measuring the required amount of water into the sterilised bottle, (see feeding guide on the back of the packaging). Do not use artificially softened water or repeatedly boiled water.
3. Place teat and cap on bottle and cool bottle under running water, then refigerate until chilled. WATER MUST BE CHILLED PRIOR TO ADDING POWDER TO MAKE FEED. Use water within 24 hours.
4. Prepare each feed as and when your baby needs it. Using the scoop provided in the can, add the correct number of scoops of powder to the refigerated water (see feeding guide on the back of the packaging), levelling off each scoop with the back of a clean dry knife. Replace plastic lid on can.
5. Replace the sterilised teat and cap on the bottle and mix the powder and water together by ROLLING THE BOTTLE VIGOROUSLY BETWEEN YOUR HANDS - DO NOT SHAKE.
6. This product is best fed at room temperature. If desired, you can warm gently by placing the bottle in a jug of tepid water. Test temperature by shaking a few drops of milk onto the inside of wrist. Milk should be lukewarm.

If advance preparation is necessary, consult your healthcare professional.

SMA tellsme this

Q2: Why do you have to use chilled water; what about the 70 degree rule?
As SMA Staydown has a precooked corn starch added, it is not possible to make up Staydown with water at 70oC. The Department of Health is aware of this. It is recommended that it is made up using strict hygiene conditions, by practising good handwashing and sterilising techniques, the introduction of bacteria will then be minimised. It is recommended that if possible each feed is made up individually with refrigerated water when required.

I posted this on the other thread too,

Thats what I was thinking too!!!

I read also on there site~

Q4: How do I give night time feeds of Staydown?

You can take the bottle of water out of the fridge before you go to bed and then add the powder to the water when the baby needs a feed. Feed at room temperature.

So therefore the water does not need to be chilled!!!

Also thought I would let you know if you dont already know, that you can get this milk free on prescription, I went along to baby clinlic today and doctor has done a repeat prescription for us

Sxxx :hugs:

hmmm im thinking of asking tbh! i heard about that!
