This is a long one so run if you like!
Ella will be 14wks on wednesday.
I breastfed her for 3wks and put her onto Cow & Gate.
Within a few days a rash appeared on her face, then spread to neck and all over after a week.
HV said heat rash. I knew it wasnt. Took her to GP and she said Lactose intolerant and prescribed Nutramigen 1. We had her on that for 2wks. Rash went but she was being very sick.
Back to GP, saw diff one who said no to a milk issue and try another shop formula and see what happens.
I chose SMA. She has been fine, no rash, no funny poo etc.. Gaining weight well. That was 8wks ago.
However, since then she has had reflux symptoms. Really acidic watery vomit, up to 2hrs after a feed. You can tell it is coming up, eyes go wide, she cries out and fidgits.
I let it be hoping she would grow out of it but its got worse and TBH I am fed up with her soaking wet and smelling of acid.
Saw ANOTHER GP today, explained symptoms. Straight away..milk allergy!!
I said we had already been down that route and apart from REFLUX symptoms she is great on SMA. Dr insisted changing milk to SMA WYSOY and gave me a prescription.
I wasnt happy and phoned to speak to another GP who explained milk issues and reflux go hand in hand usually & they would rather I tried the wysoy than gaviscon which babies quickly build up a tolerance to and only masks the pain not treats the cause.
Im so confused, I am worried about changing milks as ella sleeps so so well (I know, selfish a bit but I have yet to find any evidence wysoy helps reflux!)..
Is anyone else using wysoy for reflux or have any input here? I dont know what to do.
Sorry to go on x

Wysoy is for cows milk intolerant babies.

The GP should have prescribed SMA Staydown, specifically for reflux! But -

However I think its important to establish whether your LO really does have an intolerence or if its just something they keep palming you off with.

If LO's sick is really acidic then the milk change and gaviscon wont change the pain your LO will feel from the acid, gaviscon will only try and weigh the milk down, it has no antacid properties.

Thank you, yes, staydown def makes sense. Do you think they are confused then? I would be happier trying a 'normal milk' than soya as I really dont think she has a milk allergy to justify it (plus that will make weaning a job and a half).
I have little faith in the doctors, they all contradict each other and see no harm in changing milk. Thats a big change for a baby and should be a last resort.
Plus if ella does have milk issues why wasnt she poorly on my milk? I drink maybe 2 pints a day and eat loads of yoghurts...

I dont have a huge knowledge on milk allergys im afraid! But i know way too much about reflux
Staydown is available in Boots and Tescos (large stores) if you want to try. If it works you can always tell the doc you tried it and get them to change it.
We get Staydown on prescription too.

If the reflux continues, speak to them about medication which can help the acid burning sensation that LO can feel. There are many out there, its just about finding the right combination of milk and meds for your own baby, they are all different!
