I am trying to find an easier way to make bottles when out and about and I was thinking of preparing a bottle with half the water, leaving it to cool. Then when required, adding the powder and the other half of water, this time boiling water so it is the perfect temp. But does powder not have to be added to pretty warm water to kill bacteria?

hey, sorry no expert, new at this too:flower:

i've read, in a leaflet from hospital about bottle feeding, that the water must be 70 degrees, hence not letting it cool for longer than 30 mins.

only thing i can think of is the cheats way (my way!!!!) and take a sterilised bottle and a carton of ready made milk and just give it at room temp.

or just take hot water in a flask and try and cool it under a cold tap when feeding:flower:

Here in America I put my heated water in a thermos and take that with me and the bottles and a can of formula when I will be out for a while. When I am only going out for an hr or two I put enough warmed water in one bottle for two feeds (only takes 4oz at a time usually) and wrap it in a recieving blanket, bring an extra bottle and in a container I bring formula for two bottles. I dont know if this could work for you with the sterilizing in other countries though. (we are way lax here)

I always took sterilized bottles with cooled boiled water with me and added the powder as my boy was hungry. And i wouldnt even warm the bottle if i was at the park or beach or something.
The midwife told me that cooled boiled water can last at room temperature for 48 hours and premade formula has to stay cold (in the fridge) and can last for 24 hours. She also said that you dont have to warm the bottle before giving it to bubba.
I know that every country has different rules and tell you something different (its a shame that we cant all be on the same page lol) but my son is over a year old now and he made it!!
Good luck :)

i used some cooled boiled water and then top up with boiling water not sure about the temp being high enough to kill off anything in the milk but *touch wood* my wee one is healthy i find it a happy medium between making up fresh and convience xx

This is what I do at home, put 3oz boiling water in the bottles and leave on the side to cool . When I need a bottle I pour 1 oz freshly boiled water in and then add the formula and this is the perfect temp for LO x
