what would you ladies suggest taking into the hospital for post surgery snacks? I want something easy that I can nibble on in the night or during the day between meals to keep my energy levels up.

I've got cereal bars and hard boiled sweets so far but there isn't anything else that I can think of :dohh:

Nothing lol... Didn't want a thing was too busy cooing at my new baby and u honestly run on adrenalin... I barely wanted to eat the meals let alone snacks... First few days he was on my boob anyway so was concentrating on that...

Honestly if I took anything I wouldn't have eaten any of it!

Considering how long you have to fast for with a planned section and how long you can be kept waiting I would get your OH to bring you a sandwich or something reasonable filling. Flapjacks and cereal bars are a great idea.

I was starving both times and ate a huge amount of toast and sandwiches as soon as they would let me eat. Both times the midwives were great at getting me full of food once I could eat but I am not sure if that is because both times I was in high dependency recovery where the ratio of midwives to patients is much better than in the postnatal ward. I was much more hungry after the planned section where I had to fast than the EMCS though and I noticed most of the women in recovery were very egger to eat as soon as they could too.

After my surgery (which was around midnight) I didn't want to eat straight away - I didn't fast though, mine was an emergency. But around 5am a nurse/midwife came in to check me and feeling hungry, I asked what time breakfast was....it was around 7 I think, but she offered to make me some toast and coffee then :) so that was good. However, that might not happen in your hospital so I'd take snacks. Before you know it, it'll be dinner time!!

I ate within an hour of getting back onto the ward...I was in time for dinner and had jacket potato cheese and beans!! Before that I was scoffing on Doritos - I just wanted some junk food and to fill my face because I was starving. I personally wouldn't bother with boiled sweets; I took them and never touched them as they won't fill you up and I'd rather have some squash for a bit of a sugar hit.

I'd just take anything that's easy to eat and a bit of a variety so that you have a choice. My dad, bless him, came to the hospital after I'd had lo and brought a massive bar of chocolate. I could have kissed his feet! Xxx

I had zero appetite the MWs kept bringing me toast but i didnt really want any. I was quite thirsty for something sweet. It took a near on two weeks to get my appetite back and by then id lost all my baby weight!! I just wanted to drink lots. Hard boiled sweets or starburst style sweets are probably what youll want to pick at! :) All the best! xxx

Jeez... They wouldn't let me eat, and I was down right STARVING.

I was in active labor for 48+ hours, and was only allowed ice cubes!

Right after my EMCS I had to beg them for a drink...

They only allowed me sips as they didn't want me to throw up...

Hours later when I finally was given the OK, I took a few bites and threw it up anyways. lol

So... I would say.... Soup?

i was starving, i would def pack something! i had to be starved after as well because they thought i may need more surgery....in the end it was 3pm the NEXT day they said i could have something......my c section was 10 am, so a long wait! ended up back on a drip.....but if i could have id have probably eaten a horse :)
