It's very early but my SO and I are really hoping for a boy and have been throwing around names. He has made it clear he really wants his son's name to be Gianni or Gionni. He is Sicilian and his grandfather's name is John. I have stressed my desire to use my late father's name, Joseph, as a middle name. I do not like the sound of Gionni Joseph nor do I want my child being named after some Jersey Shore GTL meathead :haha: My father's middle name was John Michael, so possibly we could have something going with the John... but I prefer Joseph in there somewhere as that was the name my father went by. My SO's middle name is Michael coincidentally as well.

My SO was throwing out very Italian sounding names like Franco, Giovanni, Francesco, Leonardo, etc. Him, myself and my 2 kids have very American sounding names - Brandon, Jyllian, Brenden, Caitlyn - so I don't want his baby to be the oddball. All of our names also have 7 letters so the OCD in me wants the baby to have a 7 letter name as well, though not absolutely necessary. I suggested Anthony Joseph - Italian but won't seem out of place with our names, and 7 letters. We could call him Tony or AJ for short. I don't love the name but it was the first one I was OK with. I also suggested using two middle names such as Gionni Paul Joseph (Paul is my late brother's name, but not one I'd prefer to use) or Anthony John Joseph... but I don't like the idea of such a complex name :nope:

I get so overwhelmed and am afraid we won't find something we both will like. Any suggestions?

*Side note* If it turns out to be a girl then problem averted! We haven't even mentioned girl names though :dohh:

I love Anthony Joseph, does your SO not like it? If we have a boy he will be named Anthony, it's DH's name and he wants to name his son that also. I love it! I also love the suggestion of Leonardo, it sounds pretty Italian when you say the whole thing but if he goes by Leo, it definitely wouldn't stand out from the rest of his family. Other classic names I like are Maximus and Lucas (or Luka). It's tough but I'm sure you guys will find the perfect name that you both love!

What about Jack? It's a nickname for John, so still incorporating that... though maybe a stretch. If you want 7 letters you could do Jackson, which is very 'American' IMO.

I really like Leonardo. Leo fits in well with your names as well, I think. You could do Leonardo John.

I agree that Leonardo is awesome and can be shortened to Leo. My son's name is Leo, so I'm biased. :)

Thank ladies! Oy... now that I see Gianni Joseph typed out it MAY be growing on me a bit

I kind of would prefer the spelling Gionni instead, then call him Gio for short

We have plenty of time to decide but I just feel awful I immediately dismissed his name preference.

Gionni Joseph Thompson... hmm

I think Anthony sounds better than Leonado with existing names. Its cute.

I like Gio too.

You know, for as often as middle names are actually used, I say go with the name that has the most meaning to you. I wouldn't give up Joseph, as it's obviously very special. Gionni Joseph sounds fine to me.

Some other ideas:

(in the John vein)
Giancarlo
Gennaro
Gino

(others)
Carmine
Marco
Matteo
Luca
Dominic

Good luck!

I had brought up Dominic as well! I like that name, Dominic Joseph. I also mentioned the name Lorenzo to him, but his little cousin has the same name.
